Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes (Video Game Review)

Stardock Entertainment has managed to expand on an already great series with the release of Fall Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. The expansion builds on the previous installments of Enchantress by adding an arsenal of improvements on top of new heroes, items and weapons. Legendary Heroes combines the elements of a turn-based tactical RPG with that of all the great options of empire building for an overall rewarding experience. Champions are made in Fallen Enchantress through the art of recruiting and once this happens then they embark on a magical quest to acquire items, learn new talents and gain valuable experience. Players will choose a character and follow them through the intricate fantasy world were they will upgrade and customize them along the way. The first thing that you are tasked with is deciding where you want to settle and build up your empire.

Now that your city is built then you will constantly upgrade it through extensive research and demolishing insanely fierce enemy forces. As empires start to slowly pop up around you then this is when the tactical battle system kicks in. Legendary Heroes focuses heavily on combat, but somehow still manages to have a multifaceted empire building system, which is extremely difficult to do in games of this nature without having any problems.

You may quickly notice that the game's steep learning curve and repetition during battle start to become some of the game's main disadvantages. However, Legendary Heroes' gripping turn-based gameplay, challenging AI, and great empire building elements will still have you coming back for more after each turn. Players can employ several different strategies throughout the game from upgrading your units to focusing heavily on branching out your research tree. You can also use battle simulations to test out your strategies or just go head-to-head with other units. The battles will take place on an entirely separate grid which is common with most turn-based strategy titles. If you want to win most of your battles, however, then you will have to make sure you are upgrading your unit's items, equipment and so forth. You can't take out an army with advanced gear and skills if you are still playing with the stuff you started with. However, battles can be very predictable and tiresome, which may have you rushing through a few turns just to get your units upgraded so you can decimate your opposition.

The game features a wide assortment of improvements over its predecessor which includes a new leveling system, better and larger maps, tough monsters and tons more. Legendary Heroes truly shines thanks to its updated graphics engine that delivers stunningly beautiful graphics alongside the game's atmospheric music which makes the epic sized maps even more enjoyable despite its minor flaws.

All-in-all, Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes is a smart, challenging game that offers countless hours of fun for turn-based strategy lovers. Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes is now available for $39.99 exclusively on the PC. For more information on the game, check out the official Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes website.
