LEGO Heavy Weapons (Book Review)

Everyone has played with LEGOs at one point or another during their childhood. LEGOs have been everybody's favorite little building blocks for well over 60 years, and some people have managed to turn this favorite toy into a very creative building material that can be used to create almost anything.

LEGO Heavy Weapons is a detailed manual that explains how to create 1:1 scale working replicas of various firearms. If that wasn't impressive enough to make you pick up the book, you should know it was written by a very impressive 17 year old LEGO sculpting prodigy. Included in LEGO Heavy Weapons are detailed pictures and steps that will aid you in creating your very own working LEGO models of a Desert Eagle, AKS-74U, Jungle Carbine and SPAS-12.

The book also contains an introduction section that will give you a look into the life of the book's talented author Jack Streat, the methods he used to construct the models and other methods that may work for the reader, software and tips that can be used to construct these and other models, and how to find and purchase the bricks you need in the most efficient way. Each weapon is crafted using a modular building technique meaning each module or mechanism is built and all fitted together to create the working model. This allows instructions for each gun to be somewhat simplified, as it is broken down into each module, but more importantly, it allows for easier replacement of rubber bands and other necessary parts once they have worn out or broken.

Each weapon also has its own introduction that gives a brief history of the real life weapon, a history of the LEGO model itself and an explanation of how the model works. With all of the informative data and pictures contained within the book, even amateur builders can create exact working replicas of these guns. The book can be fun for nearly anyone and is definitely recommended for anyone looking for a new hobby or LEGO enthusiasts looking to take on fun new projects. The guns do fire real LEGO bricks, so it's not recommended for kids without parental supervision, but it could be an entertaining and useful way for parents to interact with their children while teaching them the fundamentals of firearm safety.

Make sure to check out LEGO Heavy Weapons if you get the chance because it is one book you won't want to miss. You can purchase a copy online at Amazon.com

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...
