Chris Olivera, who until recently was head of PR for Gamestop pleaded guilty in a Dallas courtroom to the accusations that he stole $1,965,900 via a simple scheme.
He created a company called, “Cloud Communications” and created a fake person as the destination for the sake of invoicing Gamestop for services provided by the company. In his position at Gamestop it was his reponsibility to approve these very same invoices as they were requested.
Over nearly two years Olivera managed to get himself nearly two million dollars. He was terminated from Gamestop last year for reasons unspecified. Ironically enough, it wasn't Gamestop that brought him to justice for his actions, it was the United States Government.
Olivera made the mistake of using the Postal Service to send these false invoices, this constitutes mail fraud. Olivera entered a plea of guilty to one count of mail fraud which carries a $250,000 fine and a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
