PETA has announced that they are teaming up with Lil Bub to encourage gamers everywhere to "Adopt, Don't Buy" a feline friend today. If you have been looking for that perfect companion, then check out your local animal shelter and participate in giving the millions of homeless pets a new home.
Lil Bub has teamed up with PETA for an "Adopt, Don't Buy" campaign in which the Web's favorite cat encourages everyone who's looking for a new feline friend to adopt from an animal shelter and spay or neuter. The PSA shows Lil Bub alongside the words "Bub thinks you should adopt, not buy, & spay or neuter!" Bub knows firsthand the effects of the companion-animal overpopulation crisis. As the runt of a litter born to an outdoor stray, Bub began her life homeless, and her fosters struggled to find the special-needs cat a home. Bub's guardian soon came along to adopt and spay her.
Six to 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters every year in the U.S., and roughly half of them must be euthanized simply because there aren't enough good homes for them. Buying an animal from a pet store or a breeder robs a homeless animal of his or her chance at adoption and encourages sellers to acquire more purebred animals.
