The Sims 4 (E3 2014 First Impressions)

The Sims 4 will release in just a few short months beginning on September 2, 2014. The series has always been known for its goofy portrayal and satires of real life, and the newest installment to the franchise will be no different. Some of the new features to the game include a Sims ability to laugh so hard that they die, adding "bro" traits to male or female characters and more customization options than ever before. It's been five years since the last major release in the series, so it's about time for fans of The Sims to receive a fun new sequel for their favorite franchise.

EA offered us a chance to check out The Sims 4 at E3 this year, and how could we refuse? The team showed off a new trailer for the game and put together a gameplay presentation of the game that included a couple of "bros" that used some of new traits available in Create a Sim, and the show also included a special guest appearance from none other than Kim Jong-un, who proceeded to accidentally set the Sims home on fire. The presentation was a lot of fun, and the game looked even better.

In The Sims 4, players will find an improved Create a Sim that includes even more customization options than in The Sims 3. In addition to new "bro" traits and some other personality settings, players will find new ways to edit the appearance of a character all the way down to the size of a character's wrist. Once a player has created the perfect Sims character, the all new Gallery mode allows players to upload their creations online to share with other players. The Gallery also includes a section for houses and other in-game Sims creations to share or download for free.

The team also placed heavy emphasis on a few other improvements for the game. Players will find improved AI in The Sims 4 that will make characters react more appropriately to the happenings nearby in many different situations. Players will have more control over characters as well with all new slider meters that can easily be adjusted to make a Sims character act in a different way. The Sims 4 no doubt looks like a new release and is easily the best looking game the series has seen yet. Between the trailers and presentations for The Sims 4, EA seems to be going for a really fun and enjoyable vibe for their promotion of the game, and we hope the same excitement makes its way into the final product this September.

The Sims 4 is now available for preorder on Origin and can be purchased for $69.99. The Sims 4 is not yet rated. For more information on the game, check out the official The Sims 4 website.

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...

Step Back in Time at Ole Towne Café in Ardmore

If you’ve ever wished you could step into your grandma’s kitchen and smell fresh biscuits baking while bacon sizzles in the skillet, Ole Towne Café in Ardmore, Alabama, is the next best thing. Tucked along Main Street, this little diner doesn’t just serve food—it serves nostalgia. Walking in, you’re greeted with that small-town charm you just can’t fake. The walls are lined with country décor, the coffee flows like a friendly neighbor’s gossip, and everyone seems to know everyone else. Even if you’re new in town, you’ll feel like family after your first cup of coffee. The menu is straight out of a Southern comfort cookbook. The catfish plates are fried to crispy perfection, the hamburger steaks come smothered in gravy that tastes like Sunday supper, and the breakfast plates are legendary—big fluffy pancakes, biscuits as big as your hand, and hash browns that come golden and crispy. And let’s not forget dessert. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, save room for the pies. Ole Towne Café d...
