Soulmate (Movie Review)

Soulmate has just been released by Revolver Entertainment on DVD and VOD for $19.98. Directed by Axelle Carolyn, Soulmate offers up a ghostly story that will surely send chills down your spine this Halloween. Read on to learn more.

Soulmate is a slow-paced story about a young widow named Audrey Barker (Anna Walton) who decides to move to the Welsh countryside after losing her husband. Audrey has experienced quite the hardship during her recovery, and the young woman's family starts to think she is losing her mind after a recent failed suicide attempt. Our protagonist realizes that she needs some time to herself and sneaks away to stay at a beautiful cabin located in the country. Audrey arrives to her new abode to meet the weird caretakers before settling in, however, the peaceful retreat doesn't last long.

Soulmate is a eerie ghost story that combines a great presentation with wonderful acting alongside an elegantly written story with its only downfall being its slow-pacing that could cause some viewers to become uninterested before they reach the end of the film. The buildup of the story seems to drudge on before viewers finally get to the interesting part of the movie which involves an angry spirit residing in the home. When Audrey first hears and sees the ghost--she thinks it may be delusions from her medication or an intruder is hiding in the locked attic of the home. In a weird twist, Audrey and the spirit start to become friends, which not only feeds its energy but its possessive feelings of her. Audrey's mindset and presence in the house slowly awakens the spirit into the world of the living and each day with her powers his newfound abilities. Tom Wisdom's performance as the deceased Douglas breathes new life into the film and will keep viewers hooked to every moment of the movie until the very end. The story that was slow-paced and boring up until this point starts to take on a whole new direction as the intriguing past of Douglas slowly creeps up into Audrey's new life and makes it somewhat interesting.

In the end, Soulmate is a decent film worth checking out this Halloween especially since it's now available on Hulu as well. The film was shot in the perfect location and the great performances from the actors in the film really make the drudgery of the film's slow-paced story that much more bearable. If you are looking for a spooky new film to curl up with on Halloween night then look no further than Soulmate! Also, check out the movie on iTunes here.
