Randal’s Monday (Video Game Review)

Daedalic Entertainment and Nexus Game Studios will release Randal's Monday on November 12, 2014. Randal's Monday pays homage to the classic point-and-click adventure franchise with its twisted plot and eccentric cast of characters. The game oozes with geek and pop culture references that radiate from every other sentence in Randal's Monday plotline to deliver an overall engaging story.

In Randal's Monday we have the character Randal who is stuck reliving the same Monday over and over again due to a cursed ring that seems to have an uncontrollable power over the user. Randal can only change the outcome of his misfortune by utilizing the power of time to solve puzzles within his environments to turn everything back to normal. However, Randal's story seems more complicated than it appears at first glance, and he will have to overcome many obstacles in order to succeed.

While Randal's Monday has a very unique storyline--it seems to be overshadowed by the everything that came before it--due to the fact that the game centers around popular franchises like Lords of the Rings, Groundhog Day, Star Wars and so forth. Randal's Monday is trying to relate to its audience in the easiest way one can which is to share common interests with its audience and this is something it does very well. Sometimes a joke appears in a video game that either goes over the player's head or just completely falls flat. In Randal's Monday gamers can ultimately laugh with the character because most of the references are so well-known that almost 95% of players will get the joke. We applaud the developers for taking such a bold risk, but some players may see the overshadowing references to popular pop culture influences to be too overwhelming to the storyline to truly enjoy the game's own unique story.

The world of Randal's Monday is very atheistically appealing with its perfect mixture of colors that highlight each and every aspect of this beautiful world. The soundtrack is spot on and creates the perfect ambiance during gameplay with its amazing voice-over talents taking center stage in Randal's Monday. The humor in Randal's Monday can be very crass or corny at times. There are many moments in the game that had us cough up a snicker or two but most of the jokes will have you thinking, "Did they just say that?"

Randal's Monday offers a fun adventure for its price tag and does challenge the player in numerous ways with its complex and varied puzzles throughout the game. The large amount of items within the game environment can make figuring out the right ones for specific puzzles even more difficult, but it also manages to put the game in a whole new light for the player which creates a different kind of perspective.

In the end, Randal's Monday is a good game that manages to utilize its unique story drenched in pop-culture gooey-ness in such a way that it creates an overall enjoyable experience for the player. The game's audio and visuals are breathtaking, however, Randal's Monday over-the-top humor could be a little too much for some. If you are looking for a challenging point-and-click adventure that offers up a fun experience then Randal's Monday might be for you!

Randal's Monday will be available on November 12th for PC and Mac for $24.99. To learn more, visit the official Randal Monday's website.

Master Your Aim: Why Every FPS Gamer Needs a Mouse Sensitivity Converter

Say goodbye to floaty aiming and missed flick shots. Here is how math—and a simple tool—can keep your muscle memory razor-sharp across every shooter you play. When Your Brain Is Just Trying to Survive: What Prolonged Emotional Abuse, Betrayal, and Fear Do to You

There is something people often do not understand about prolonged emotional abuse: You do not simply “get over it.” You do not experience one hurtful event, cry about it, and wake up the next morning as the same person you were before. When someone repeatedly experiences betrayal, manipulation, control, isolation, emotional punishment, surveillance, instability, and fear, the effects can reach far beyond the relationship itself. They can change how a person thinks, sleeps, reacts, remembers, communicates, trusts, and even understands their own emotions. Sometimes, the person who has been hurt begins to wonder if they are the problem. Why am I crying so much? Why can't I calm down? Why do I keep checking? Why can't I just leave? Why do I feel exhausted all the time? Why do I keep trying to explain my pain to someone who keeps hurting me? The answer is often not that the person is weak, dramatic, or “crazy.” Sometimes, their brain is trying to survive. When Your Home...
