When you talk about fighting games, you have to mention Mortal Kombat at all costs, as this is one of the most impressive games in this genre. With Mortal Kombat X, the series is taken to the next generation consoles, and I have to say that it does a stellar introduction in this regard.
Story
Although few people will play Mortal Kombat X for the story, there is a plot here, and an interesting one that spans over two decades. It’s not that exciting to be honest, but it does use all the characters in a very intriguing way, which is a plus.
Gameplay
The gameplay is by far where Mortal Kombat X shines. There are a few new characters that are taken from the future displayed in the campaign, but at the same time there are some new mechanics.
No matter the character you choose, you can interact with the environment and, at the same time, you can choose three different variations for each character, which is quite impressive to be honest. Each variation does have its own set of interesting attacks and weapon, and this allows you to continually expand further and further your experience.
There is a spring gauge, for the first time in 6 iterations of the game, and there are also the finishing moves that made the series so amazing. One would say that these are way too gruesome and filled with gore, but then again this was to be expected considering the track record of the series. You have two sets of new finishing moves, mainly the Faction kills and the Quitality.
On to the combat, it’s as amazing as ever! There are many combos which are quite hard to remember to be honest, but the most important thing is that you can attack your opponent seamlessly with strategies, or you can just mash the buttons, that’s not a problem.
One thing I enjoyed a lot is that there is so much content in the game. Aside from the story mode, which is my favorite, you also have a ranked 1v1 mode, as well as a Survivor mode, Test your Luck and King of the Hill. You also get a Living Towers mode and Faction Wars, which both manage to ooze new life into the gameplay that’s already awesome. Put there more special moves, rewards and achievements, then you will see how good of a decision is to get this game!
Graphics
Hands down, this is the best looking Mortal Kombat game to date. Mortal Kombat X has a stellar character design, the animations are amazing as always, and the fact that you can interact with the impressive game world is surely a plus! It’s just stunning to play this, and just witness the craziness that already happens into the game world on its own, when you add your attacks and battles, it’s just an explosive experience that you manage to repeat over and over.
Conclusion
Mortal Kombat X is an amazing game, for me one of the best fighting games of all time. The dev team stayed true to their promise and delivered a lot of content, impressive battles and numerous fatalities, which makes Mortal Kombat X a wonderful fighting game to have, if you can withstand the gore, of course.
