Ronin (Video Game Review)

Many times, platform games tend to focus on skill rather than anything else, and because of that these tend to get quite boring sometimes. Yes, there are situations in which just having a challenge is not enough, instead it’s the way that you place that challenge which makes the experience more interesting, fun and exciting.

With this in mind, a person created this game named Ronin. Yes, this is the creation of a single individual, something that has impressed me a lot to be honest. At its core, this is a platform game, but the focus is on stealth and the action is turn based. It might sound a little tricky, but thanks to the excellent in-game tutorial you will be able to understand all the ins and outs of this very intricate, yet truly interesting game.

While playing Ronin I felt like a modern day ninja, which scours the game world in order to solve numerous challenges. You will need to hack computers, kill specific targets and do a lot of other cool stuff, which I feel that add a lot of character and appeal to the game and the experience as a whole.

Being able to gain vengeance against a powerful corporation might be like the main purpose here, but you need to start from the bottom and move your way up. The game constantly changes its pace and it’s really cool to see how fun the game really manages to get, since you constantly manage to enter new situations, some of which are very demanding.

For example, due to the turn based aspect of the game, battles are performed one step at a time. Thankfully, there is no timer so you can take your time and judge your next move. Jumping is made via right clicking the mouse, which is quite unusual to be honest, but the game does a great job when it comes to providing you with a lot of value as it manages to combine many interesting and unseen mechanics into a single experience.

Killing the enemies is as simple as clicking a button located above them, and most of the time you will need to jump on them in order to achieve that result. It might not sound like much, but the game is a stellar entry and recreation of the stealth titles you know and love. It’s the epitome of the genre, but it’s presented in an extraordinary, very demanding way.

The esthetics of the game are also very nice too, with the title offering a lot of value thanks to the wonderful combination of dark and light that is made with complete prevision and the swift animations that you will like quite a lot.

To be honest, the gameplay is fluid and filled with a lot of interesting portions, because each of the missions are nice to tackle and offer enough variety to be relevant and fun. I do feel that they might have done an even better job by adding in a more variety of enemies, but this doesn’t hurt the game a lot, instead it’s the high quality of the whole experience that makes things more appealing.

I have to say that Ronin is a game of extremes. It can get very fun all the time as you try to engage your enemies, but at the same time it can also be quite frustrating due to the large number of enemies you have to tackle. Still, this is an amazing game that offers a lot of value and which is inexpensive. This is a great game, and a fun one too, so if you fancy a combination of platforming and turn-based goodness, this might be the title for you.

Jackson County Fair in Scottsboro, Alabama (Event Review)

The Jackson County Fair has invaded Scottsboro, Alabama for the week of October 7-11, 2014, but the event may be a waste of money for some.  The fair was the 79th annual showing and was presented by Kissel Entertainment. The event featured rides, exhibits, games and great (yet too expensive) food for attendees at the show. Families could have enjoyed a great time at the fair grounds, but the event wasn't cheap and it didn't feature some of the more prominent attractions like one would find at larger, state fairs and carnivals. The turn out very low in Scottsboro though, and many would think that this would make it easier to enjoy the event but not even small lines could help make the Jackson County event fun. The Jackson County Fair had over a dozen rides for all age groups. The fair's massive Ferris Wheel towered high in the sky and helped light up the event, while the Moby Dick ride and Gravitron also looked fearsome and stood tall even from a distance. Plenty of ...
