Calvino Noir (Video Game Review)

Calvino Noir released from developer Calvino Noir Limited on August 27, 2015 for PC, PS4 and iOS. The new release is a film noir style stealth game that allows gamers to explore the 1930s European criminal underworld by sneaking around sewers, rooftops and past guards in this dark adventure. Can you unravel the revolutionist plot that lies ahead? Read on to learn more.

Calvino Noir is a title inspired by games like Deus Ex and Blade Runner. The heavily noir influenced game consists of characters of low moral character who are fighting for the future of their city which is slowly sliding its way into the gutter. The single-player game takes place across seven levels split across three acts with a fully voiced mystery plot.

The visual style present in Calvino Noir is reminiscence of classic film noir cinema and has been beautifully detailed for its atmospheric world. Gamers must use a very stealthy approach for those who stand in their way while coordinating multiple characters that all have their own unique abilities.

The main character in Calvino Noir is Wilt who seems to be patient, witty and disillusioned while embodying everything that makes the title such a great piece of art. There are three main characters to control with their own special talents and are used to infiltrate buildings while distracting and sneaking past guards in order to start a revolution. The film noir mystery plot really adds another level of immersion to this beautifully designed somber backdrop that is Calvino Noir.

The visuals in the game are told in shades of grey with beautiful 1930s architecture that has many of secret corridors within them. Calvino Noir has a fantastic story, art style and voice acting that drip with stylistic beauty and charm. While the game has many things going for it--there are a few issues that can impact gameplay very slightly such as the lack of an options menu.

All-in-all, Calvino Noir is a fun film nor adventure packed full of charm and elegance. If you have been looking for a beautifully, deep story that delivers a fantastic adventure reminisce of the 1930's criminal world. To learn more, visit the official Calvino Noir Steam page.
