The Way (Video Game Review)

PlayWay has released The Way for PC, Mac and Linux.

PlayWay first introduced gamers to The Way on Kickstarter where they raised over $23,000 CAD from interested backers. The project reached its goals in only a few days and then it was on its way to PC, Mac and Linux.

The Way is an interesting concept where players relive the same life experiences from three different perspectives: an adult, an old man and a child. The title helps players experience the title in several different immersive ways with its unique gameplay mechanics.

The emotions and stories in The Way feel very real and that is one of the key aspects of the game's endless replayability. The artwork is elegant, simple and colorful while managing to help the story along in a unique new way.

The 2D puzzle platformer, inspired from classic titles like Another World, follows a member of a space explorers team who searches for the meaning of life after losing a loved one. The sci-fi story has players traveling across an unique alien planet full of rich animations and mind-bending puzzles.

The most intriguing part of The Way is its story that starts with our protagonist digging up his wife's body to put her in cryostasis--before stealing a spaceship to take her to another planet. It is on this beautiful pixilated planet that players can truly become immersed in the game's traditional platformer mechanics with some great level designs.

However, despite the many things that the game has going for it, The Way does suffer from incredibly tedious puzzles that require a lot of backtracking to solve. The controls are somewhat awkward as well which impacts the character's jumping abilities and can have you falling to your death more times than you would like.

In the end, The Way does offer a fun platformer experience despite the overly tedious puzzles. If you have been looking for a way to relive some of the joys of classic games than look no further then The Way on PC. To learn more, visit the official The Way website.
