Destiny: Rise of Iron will release this month and is the fourth expansion for Bungie's first-person shooter. The storyline for Rise of Iron centers around the Fallen and their recent breach of the Wall that stood on the border of Old Russia surrounding the last safe city on Earth. The last known Iron Lord, Lord Saladin, helps lead players down the path in becoming the next generation of Iron Lords scouring the remains of the Plaguelands. The new expansion brings everything you would expect including a new action-packed campaign, fun missions & raids, never-before-seen PvE locations and of course, fun new PvP maps to play through.
BioGamer Girl was lucky enough to head out to Bungie to get some hands-on time with Destiny: Rise of Iron before its official release on September 20th. I had my first personal experience with one of Destiny's expansion packs, The Taken King, last year and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. Bungie puts their heart and soul into their games and it is evident with everything you see in Destiny from the characters to the gameplay. When you pick up one of the expansions, you don't get just another DLC like you do with most games, you literally get an entirely new game on its own.
In Rise of Iron, Devil Splicers have invaded the area near the Cosmodrome called The Plaguelands. It is here that they have found forbidden technology called SIVA that allows them to transform the region into your worst nightmare. As soon as you jump into the first mission King of the Mountain, you automatically start to feel the amount of dedication and love that has been put into the expansion. Progressing through the missions allow you to unlock the hidden social area and climb the ranks of the Iron Lords. Rise of Iron has been beautifully designed with impressive graphics, out of this world cinematics and topped off with a fantastic soundtrack. The world around you in Destiny: Rise of Iron is amazing and stepping into the new expansion felt refreshing and new.
Rise of Iron features some fun new strikes with The Devil's Lair and The Wretched Eye. The fun new addition to the strikes are the fact you fight against Fallen enemies infused with SIVA which adds a higher degree of challenge than previous strikes. There is a lot of great content in Destiny: Rise of Iron but we don't want to spoil it for you this early before release. The campaign only gives you a few hours of gameplay but as you unlock new strikes, raids and so forth, Rise of Iron ultimately adds a lot of replayability to Destiny.
In the end, Destiny: Rise of Iron is shaping up to be the best version of Destiny yet. I really enjoyed my hands-on time with the game and thought it played fantastically. I often took the time to look over at other journalists who were playing through the campaign and were speed-running through the entire thing. However, I enjoyed the game so much that wanted to take the time to kill every enemy and make my way through ever aspect of the game, because I didn't want the campaign to end. And the last boss battle was a fantastic treat--wait until you play it fellow gamers! Destiny: Rise of Iron is a thrilling ride through the unknown and will deliver non-stop excitement for gamers when it releases next week.
