HEMSI has announced a cool event to celebrate their National Gold Plus EMS Lifeline Award.
What: Popsicle Patrol to Celebrate American Heart Association’s National Gold Plus EMS Lifeline Award
When: Thursday, July 5, 2018 – 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Mobile Operation Covering HEMSI Locations and Employees in the Field
In recognition of every employee’s role in earning the new National Gold Plus EMS Lifeline Award from the American Heart Association, HEMSI CEO Jon Howell with other administrators and supervisors will deliver popsicles throughout the afternoon and evening shifts to EMS employees working in the field.
The honor comes to HEMSI for its continued achievements in implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks. In delivering the highest standards of paramedicine and heart attack care to patients, EMS professionals improve survival rates by saving precious minutes by providing treatment in the field and notifying the hospitals of an incoming acute coronary incident.
According to the AHA, more than 250,000 people each year experience an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the deadliest type of heart attack caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart that requires timely treatment. To prevent death, it’s critical to restore blood flow as quickly as possible, either by opening the blocked vessel mechanically or by providing clot-busting medication.
The Mission Lifeline program rewards EMS organizations that follow advanced protocols derived from American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology guidelines. The role of EMS in the system-of-care for emergency cardiac patients is crucial and often sets the course for the patient's outcome. The cutting-edge tools, training, and practices allow EMS providers to rapidly identify suspected heart attack patients, promptly notify the medical center, and trigger a prompt response from the awaiting hospital personnel.
HEMSI (Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc.) is Madison County’s 501(c)3/not-for-profit ambulance service provider offering preeminent paramedicine and the highest standards of care. www.hemsi.org
