Alabama Attractions: Hubert Family Farms - A Legacy of Agriculture, Community, and Haunting Thrills

Hubert Family Farms, nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in New Market, AL, has been a cornerstone of the Hubert family since 1917.

Just north of Huntsville, this farm has witnessed over a century of growth and transformation, all while maintaining its deep-rooted connection to the land and community.

The farm’s story began with George and Sallie Hubert, who established it in 1917. Over the years, the farm has been passed down through generations, each adding their own chapter to its rich history. From the early days of horse-drawn plows to the modern era of large-scale farming, the Hubert family has continually adapted to the changing times.

A pivotal figure in the farm’s history is Uncle Red, who joined the Navy during the Great Depression to support his family. His contributions were crucial in ensuring the farm’s survival during those tough times. His dedication and sacrifice are remembered as a testament to the resilience and determination that define the Hubert family.

Wade A. Hubert, another key figure, expanded the farm to around 2,000 acres before his death in 1990. His vision and hard work laid the foundation for the farm’s modern operations. His son, Billy Wade Hubert, continued this legacy until his passing in 2003, further solidifying the farm’s place in the community.

In 2016, the current generation of the Hubert family revived the farm, focusing on both traditional crops and new ventures like agritourism. This revival has brought a new wave of innovation and community engagement, ensuring that Hubert Family Farms remains a beloved local treasure for years to come.

The current generation of the Hubert family always knew they wanted to be farmers, a passion deeply rooted in their father’s dedication and love for the land. From a young age, the dream of farming was clear and unwavering, a testament to the family’s enduring legacy.

After Seth Hubert graduated Magna Cum Laude from Alabama A&M with a degree in Crop Science, the farm was revived in 2016 with the help of family and friends. This revival marked a new chapter for Hubert Family Farms, introducing tulips and other flowers inspired by the vibrant tulip fields of the Pacific Northwest. This innovative approach not only honored the farm’s rich history but also brought a fresh and colorful dimension to its operations.

Jackson County Fair in Scottsboro, Alabama (Event Review)

The Jackson County Fair has invaded Scottsboro, Alabama for the week of October 7-11, 2014, but the event may be a waste of money for some.  The fair was the 79th annual showing and was presented by Kissel Entertainment. The event featured rides, exhibits, games and great (yet too expensive) food for attendees at the show. Families could have enjoyed a great time at the fair grounds, but the event wasn't cheap and it didn't feature some of the more prominent attractions like one would find at larger, state fairs and carnivals. The turn out very low in Scottsboro though, and many would think that this would make it easier to enjoy the event but not even small lines could help make the Jackson County event fun. The Jackson County Fair had over a dozen rides for all age groups. The fair's massive Ferris Wheel towered high in the sky and helped light up the event, while the Moby Dick ride and Gravitron also looked fearsome and stood tall even from a distance. Plenty of ...
