Square Enix announced earlier this year that they would be bringing a enhanced version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution to Wii U, PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 with the Director's Cut. The developers took the opportunity to work on the title again to enhance portions of the game that didn't turn out so great while adding in some fantastic new features to boot. PC gamers will also have the opportunity to upgrade to the new enhanced edition for a small fee which is really worth it once you look at all the new content.
Deus Ex is a series that most players remember fondly from their early days of gaming including myself. It allowed players to save the world, take out a few bad guys and is primarily one of the reasons most of the games you love today even exist. The Deus Ex series did a lot of things right and other games followed by using some of those same methods. Deus Ex: Human Revolution manages to take everything you loved from the series and put it in one beautifully designed game. Players can still save the world but now they can do it on their own terms which is the best part. You will crawl through dark tunnels, crouch behind boxes and even hack into a few emails in order to reach your goal. While most games try to keep you on one track, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, encourages you to experiment and stray off course with even some XP bonuses to boot for doing so. The HUD is still present and allow gamers to travel across the city by using streets, sewers and air ducts to gather Intel before heading into the main mission. You still gather as much XP and credits as possible in order to buy even bigger and better augmentations while you shuffle through hacked emails learning more about the global conspiracy at hand. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut contains all the great dialogue and interrogations that you love from the series alongside great stealth mechanics to keep hidden while you move through scenarios. Basically, the game is everything you would expect from the series, with more enhancements and features than ever before.
We primarily tested Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut on the Nintendo Wii U which has seen a ton of new features starting with enhanced gamepad interactions such as touchscreen-hacking. In the game, players take on the role of Adam Jensen with the second screen being used as one of his augmentations, the Neural Hub. Adam Jensen maintains the role as Sarif Industries' chief of security which is one of the top augmentation companies. Adam is injured during a break in where he not only loses his girlfriend but his arms. Jensen is then augmented with metallic arms and sent on a mission to find out why it happened and what else is in play. The first thing players will notice with the Director's Cut is that a Tactical Pattern-Recognition System has replaced the Smart Vision component which allows the player to move the controller around the game environments to see all of the data on screen. The augmentation allows the Gamepad to function much like a scanner where players can learn more about enemies and their environment. The augmentation now has the ability to show the enemy's stats such as items they may be carrying, health and so forth. Another great new addition is that in-game menus now feel like one of Jensen's augmentations, and as toolkits, allow for better game flow and immersion. The game has also been lengthened with the addition of New Game Plus alongside the addition of Tong's Rescue Mission and the Missing Link chapter being seamlessly integrated into the storyline. Basically, if you spent over 30 plus hours with Deus Ex: Human Revolution, be prepared to dedicate even more hours of your life with the Director's Cut. The replay value here is insane!
Direct combat in Deus Ex: Human Revolution is still brutal and efficient and players now get the opportunity to add a slew of bonus weapons to their arsenal alongside those that were originally pre-order exclusives! The Wii U Gamepad adds a ton of interesting new ways to use your weapons including Grenade Throwback allowing you to swipe the icon for the grenade on the Gamepad then throw it back. BOOM! Any weapon with a scope can utilize both the Gamepad and screen for accurate precision sniping. Players can now open the 2D Map toolkit to gather Intel and clues which will remain on the radar which is part of the touchscreen. Everything in Deus Ex: Human Revolution is now more accessible with toolkits and quick inventory being displayed on the Gamepad. Once combat is over, looting is easier than ever, with detailed descriptions about all the items dropped being displayed at your fingertips without the need of accessing extra menus. Basically, everything that was annoying about Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been tweaked and upgraded in the Director's Cut for an even better gameplay experience.
Hacking was always one of my favorite things in Deus Ex and it is even better in Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut. The Gamepad in combination with your screen have increased accuracy and speed while the world around you still remains visible as you hack away with your fingers. Also, feel free to play the game primarily on the Gamepad, yeah no TV needed. This means you can play on your gamepad, turn the TV to cable mode, and watch an episode of The Walking Dead while you play. Infologs can now be toggled in-game as a physical beacon and set to play automatically when stood over. Also, players can share the infologs through Miiverse without ever breaking the immersion of the game which is the last thing you want to do while in the middle of hacking. Hacking can be very beneficial since most result in bonus cash or rewards if you are able to beat the mini-game by solving the puzzle without being noticed.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is about stealth and the proper use of augmentations which is everything that the Director's Cut manages to improve on. Jensen lives in a world obsessed with augmentations and it isn't afraid to make fun of itself every now and then. The storyline is superb which is only topped by the phenomenal voice acting, beautiful visuals and immersive gameplay. There isn't much to not like about the game, but you will encounter the occasional horrible boss fight and excruciatingly long load times. However, this can be easily overlooked with everything that the game does right. Boss fights have even been improved on in Director's Cut with new maps and gameplay mechanics which takes out some of the frustration you may have suffered from before. Players can now even defeat bosses without having to use a single bullet. Hey, you got to conserve where you can! Other vast improvements include a rebalanced energy system alongside improved visuals and A.I. All-in-all, Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut has been vastly improved making it even better than it already was. Ever annoyance and dislike you may have had about the game has now been tweaked and upgraded. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut takes the game to the next level by adding in better gameplay, improved visuals, and a slew of new features to keep you fully immersed in its fascinating story. If you loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution then you have to pick up the Director's Cut and experience the game in all of its glory.
