Rise of Incarnates is an upcoming free-to-play fighter from the creators of the Tekken and Soul Calibur series. Publisher Bandai Namco has announced the game will be available as a free-to-play PC game but will obviously be designed with controllers in mind. Players can expect exciting 2 vs 2 combat using a mixture of melee and ranged attacks while simultaneously having access to character specific abilities and even some vehicles. Early impressions from E3 2014 showed a lot of promise, so if pesky free-to-play microtransactions doesn't get in the way of fun when the game launches in the near future, Bandai Namco could have a real winner on their hands with Rise of Incarnates.
The story of Rise of Incarnates is mostly non-existent. Players will take control of powerful beings known as Incarnates that have been infused with the power of mythological beings in a world that is on the brink of full destruction. Each character seems to have their own reasons for fighting, and each also has different powers based on the being that has granted their powers. The four announced characters so far have the powers of the Grim Reaper, Ares, Mephistophales and Lilith. The E3 trailer for the game also shows off some additional characters that players could look for in the full release.
The time we spent with the game showed off some pretty interesting gameplay. The arena battles seem to offer plenty of room for fighters to charge up and land attacks, evade or even retreat and attempt to regroup away from the battle. Level design in Rise of Incarnates seems to be nearly as important as the development of the game's characters. Levels include landmarks and other structures inspired by real world locations, and there are some destructible and interactive items in the environments as well. Characters seem to be very unique and can even get the use of vehicles specific to that character to get around levels more quickly. Character balance will likely be something the team addresses all the way up to the game's full release and beyond, but we can't really say with any authority that the game has mastered this as of the E3 presentation.
One thing we do know is Rise of Incarnates looks like it will be a lot of fun to play online with friends at launch. The 2 vs 2 combat scenarios will really encourage fans to find and team up with a friend online for the best chance at success. The game requires a lot of communication and cooperation to be most successful in matches. Assuming Rise of Incarnates adds enough new characters and manages to tweak a few minor problems we noticed with the E3 demo, Rise of Incarnates could be one of more popular free-to-play games to release in all of 2014.
Rise of Incarnates is now in Alpha and is scheduled to release in the near future. Rise of Incarnates is not yet rated. For more information on the game, check out the official Rise of Incarnates website.
