Top 5 Comic Based Games for Xbox 360

Summer is here, so of course, all of the summer blockbuster films are beginning to hit theaters. So far in 2012, we've already seen Marvel's The Avengers rack up impressive box office numbers, and  Men in Black III  lured in moviegoers with the newest adaptation of the classic comic series. Over the next couple of months, we will also see G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises in theaters, and since this is BioGamer Girl, it's worth mentioning Resident Evil: Retribution is scheduled to debut on September 14, 2012.

It seems that comic based films and super hero movies have nearly taken over the film industry, so of course, you see plenty of video games trying to capitalize off these films and comics. And sure, there are plenty of flops among these, but this is the case in every gaming genre, and some of the best games ever come from comic book series. So without further delay, we give you the Top 5 Comic Based Games for Xbox 360!

5. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 continued the rich history of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and X-Men Legends games by once again bringing together an all-star roster of Marvel heroes to fight against...well themselves. You'll choose your side in the super hero civil war, but the gameplay from the classic games has returned here. Combat is entertaining, and leveling up your heroes and their powers is more addictive here than in previous titles thanks to some new features. This is the best multiplayer comics based game available on Xbox 360, and teaming up with up to three of your buddies and dealing out some punishment is a blast.

4. Batman: Arkham Asylum: This is the game that started what is sure to be one of the most popular comics based video game franchises ever when it is all said and done. Batman: Arkham Asylum sent the dark knight deep into Gotham's facility for the criminally insane to rescue Commissioner Gordon and stop The Joker's diabolical plans. The game won numerous awards for its amazing new take on the Batman storyline as well as its compelling and addictive action oriented gameplay. Fans were enamored when they finally received the Batman game they had always wanted--a game that made you feel like Batman with his full arsenal of gadgets taking on classic Batman villains, but even the casual gamer could fall in love with the fantastic graphical and gameplay presentation.

3. The Walking Dead: The Walking Dead is arguably the fastest growing comic series ever and one of the most popular currently. The comic series grew to a television show in 2010, and now, Telltale Games has released the first part of its five episode long adventure. Even if the episodes don't get any better, Episode 1: A New Day alone is worthy of this slot, and the series as a whole may be moved up a spot or two if they manage to produce even better results. Following the tale of Lee Everett and young Clementine through the opening moments of the zombie apocalypse portrayed in the comics is as compelling and dramatic as its counterparts, and adding in fun gameplay and puzzles to solve just sweetens the deal. This game isn't just for zombie fans, but it is for anyone who can appreciate a great storyline in a game as well.

2. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 built on the already impressive Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds by adding new heroes, new game modes and new features. While not entirely a comic based game, it does take many of your favorite Marvel heroes and villains such as Spider-Man and Doctor Doom and combines them with a roster half assembled by Capcom favorites such as Chris Redfield and Ryu and pits them against the fearsome Galactus in a battle for both worlds. This is not only one of the best comic based games for Xbox 360, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better overall fighting game in the whole genre, as many fighters adopt their gameplay from this classic series.

1. Batman: Arkham City: For everything the award-winning Batman: Arkham Asylum was, Batman: Arkham City managed to improve in nearly every possible way. Now, the game is set in an open world environment within Gotham, and while many of the classic villains make their return here, Batman has brought along a few friends who you can play as in the game too. If that wasn't enough to make players rush out and get the new game, the folks over at Rocksteady went ahead and improved the game's graphics, added some new game modes and mini-games and even managed to give us a surprisingly better storyline than you witnessed in the original Batman: Arkham Asylum. This game is truly a masterpiece and worthy of being called the greatest comic based game on Xbox 360.
