Exclusive Interview: Daniel Cudmore Talks Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn

The live-action series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn launched on October 5, 2012 and will lead up to the launch of the Halo 4 video game. We recently set down with actor Daniel Cudmore who portrays Master Chief in Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn to get more details on the amazing series. Read on to learn more!

AMANDA DYAR: You are portraying Master Chief in Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. How did you research the role and how exciting was it to step into the shoes of such an iconic character in the video game industry?

DANIEL CUDMORE: It’s a very iconic character that I did not want to mess up. I did my research through the various games and fiction novels written about how Master Chief came to be. I also had a great group of guys on set that were literal bibles on Halo that I could go to for any questions I had.

AMANDA: Since you are not a big gamer did that make the process of becoming Master Chief difficult or was it easy once you officially stepped into the official suit of armor?

DANIEL: I don't think being a big gamer or not affected my process; it’s just the same as any other role I've played. I do the research and add my own touch to what I feel the character of the Chief is.

AMANDA: You have been in films such as Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, X-Men: The Last Stand and the Twilight Saga series. How was the acting process different for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn compared to other projects you have completed?

DANIEL: It was suit performing so it was a different process from acting without one on. Your movements have to be a bit exaggerated to transfer better on film. At the same time though, I'm still acting out these scenes with the other actors, so the emotion of the dialogue has to be true to the situation, all the while through a helmet that’s tough to hear out of.. It was challenging but fun at the same time.

AMANDA: Lastly, what was your favorite part of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and your role as Master Chief?

DANIEL: Besides putting on the suit for the first time, it would have to be riding around on the back of the warthog!
