From the Press Release

In less than two years , Transformice - an online multiplayer game - has exceeded a staggering 10 million accounts. Because it is free-to-play and simple to use, Transformice appeals to players from all over the world. In Transformice each player controls a little mouse and brings back a piece of cheese to its hole. However, the path is tricky. To help other mice, a player will be shaman and has to build a safe path between the cheese and hole. Transformice is the result of the hard work done by two french creators: Jean-Baptiste Le Marchand, a software developer, and Mélanie Christin, a graphic designer. After working together for a while in Ankama Games, a french video game company, they decided to develop an online game. Launched on the 1st of May 2010, word spread quickly and the community rapidly grew. Thanks to an English speaking forum, Transformice became international. Acknowledging the importance of international expansion, an English-speaking server was set up.

A Brazilian server fully translated in Portuguese soon followed. Being one of the few games available in Portuguese, Brazilians players came in droves. Nowadays, they represent 53% of Transformice players. Transformice attracts players from various nationalities. In fact 14% of players are Turkish, followed by Spanish and Americans. In January 2012 alone, the website www.transformice.com has been visited 40 million times with 4 million unique visitors. Today, the game counts 1.2 million active players. In order to further improve the game, Jean-Baptiste Le Marchand and Mélanie Christin founded Atelier 801 (SARL), a company located in Tourcoing (France), on October 14, 2011. In the near future, while keeping an eye on Transformice, the company Atelier 801 will develop more cute and fun free online games. Transformice won't be alone for much longer. A new multiplayer game, player vs player style, is being considered. For more information on the game, check out the official Transformice website.
