Top 10 Zombie Movies

Zombies have become an accepted part of today's pop culture phenomenon. Now let's count down some of our favorite zombie films!

10. Land of the Dead (2005) “Land of the Dead” is one of the many Romero zombie movies featured in my list. He is my favorite director of all time, and is the main reason for most of my zombie love. “Land of the Dead” is about a city full of post zombie apocalypse survivors that have walled themselves in for protection. This movie truly offers a unique take on what a zombie infested world could look like if rich and corrupt people controlled the living.

 9. Doomsday (2008) “Doomsday” is set in a futuristic Europe. The deadly Reaper virus has killed off most of the world’s population and is now threatening to finish off the remaining survivors. The prime minister of Britain organizes a team and sends them on a mission to retrieve a cure from a scientist in Scotland. In order to attain the cure, the group must fight through two feuding clans and convince the leader of one of the groups to turn over the cure.

8. Shaun of the Dead (2004) What’s the only thing worse than having your girlfriend dump you? That would be trying to reconcile things and get back together while fighting off hordes of the undead. That is just what title character Shaun is trying to do in the British comedy/horror movie “Shaun of the Dead.” This movie is great, because it gives you rich and interesting characters, funny dialogue and scenes and it still keeps a sense of horror throughout the entirety of the film.

7. I Sell the Dead (2008) “I Sell the Dead” tells a tale about how two grave robbers got started in their trade, and how they ended up about to be executed at the guillotine. These are not just ordinary grave robbers however, because they also kill the undead. Grave robbing is a dangerous business, and luck is about to run out for our main characters.

6. Dance of the Dead (2008) “Dance of the Dead” is about a group of nerdy teenagers from a small Georgia high school. They were not able to get dates to the prom, so instead they will have to defend the town from a zombie attack. Despite a simple and somewhat lame plot, “Dance of the Dead” is actually a great movie and is entertaining from start to finish.

5. 28 Weeks Later (2007) The setting of “28 Weeks Later” is similar to that of “Land of the Dead,” only this quarantined zone is located in Britain and is ran by the U.S. Army. A young girl, who unknowingly carries the zombie virus, starts an outbreak within the city. Chaos ensues and only a few people make it out of the city alive in the end.

4. Resident Evil (2002) “Resident Evil” is based on the hugely popular video game series of the same name from creators Capcom. When a deadly virus is released into a secret Umbrella facility, an elite unit is sent to reclaim the facility. They meet and team up with the main character, Alice, who is suffering from amnesia but will be the key to all of them making it out of the facility alive.

3. Return of the Living Dead (1985) When zombies are released from their deep slumber by clueless employees of a medical supply company, all hell breaks loose! Soon, the undead are stumbling through the streets looking for some fresh brains. This is the classic take on the zombie movie, and it paved the way for many sequels with roughly the same plot.

2. Night of the Living Dead (1968) The original “Night of the Living Dead” is director George A. Romero’s first film and one of his best. Unlike many of the classic zombie movies, this movie does not feel outdated and is still a great watch. The story centers around a group of survivors that have barricaded themselves away from the undead army in a remote farmhouse. The majority of the movie takes place at this house and shows how the characters deal with the situation. The ending is classic and helps propel this movie near the top of my list.

1. Dawn of the Dead (1978) “Dawn of the Dead” is the sequel to “Night of the Living Dead” and is Romero’s second directed movie and the best zombie movie. The story centers around a group of survivors that take refuge from the zombie outbreak by going fortifying themselves inside of a Pennsylvania mall. They think they are safe, but they soon realize there are other threats besides zombies. Once again, the movie simulates how well survivors can deal with such a situation and makes the movie a lot more about the characters than fighting off the zombies.

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...
