Nuclear Outrun is the newest collaboration for iOS platforms from developer Nerdook Productions, mobile developer Nightspade and publisher Gamenauts. The game was previously available to play for free over the Internet from various game distribution platforms, but the enhanced version of the game has made its way to the App Store with all new features and in-game items. Fast shooting and driving is the name of the game in Nuclear Outrun. Fans of endless runners and mobile shooters will want to go for a wild ride in the newest version of Nuclear Outrun!
Nuclear Outrun casts the player as one of the last remaining survivors in a post-apocalyptic world. The player will have a nice array of weapons and a choice of vehicle to roll out in style and escape the blast radius of a nuclear missile bearing down on the city. There will be plenty of debris, zombies and other enemies and roadblocks ready to trap the player in the city and succumb to the blast of the nuclear missile. Players will essentially have a predetermined amount of time to reach safety in their ride of choice all while blasting away items and enemies on the road and rescuing survivors for neat bonus effects.
The fun formula allows players to gain points through each level that are transferred to local leaderboards and also used for gaining levels and progressing through the game. Players can then unlock new weapons, vehicles and other in-game items to make completing levels more feasible. During the game, ammunition drops can be gathered, new powerups can be found and weapons can be cycled for a variety of different effects. A few examples include equipping spiked tires that instantly destroy most anything the player drivers over, a Twitgun that shoots little blue bird projectiles while turning things into hilarious #hashtags and a Fart Bazooka that is sure to help clear away enemies!
The humor in Nuclear Outrun is clearly the game's finest quality. The variety of unique weapons and powerups ensures the player is always finding something new to laugh at and shows the developers probably had a good time creating the game as well. In total, there are 25 weapons in the game including a Squid Launcher, Shark Gun and more, 18 vehicles that includes a Catmobile, Demonbike and Ice Cream Truck, and 30 different survivors including Bunnies, Mimes and some sexy Nurses. Once a high score has been earned, there are also easy options to share the score over social media networks like Twitter.
One of the main drawbacks in Nuclear Outrun is clearly the game's controls. Controlling such a large arsenal of weapons is not as simplistic as it should be on iOS devices, and the touch screen controls can be a bit cumbersome when trying to see upcoming obstacles on the road. Physics in the game can be a problem at times too with your vehicle flipping far too easily, costing precious seconds as the missile gets ever closer to impact in the background of each stage. The game's graphics are a fine feature of the game though, and character models could be compared to a mashup of Castle Crashers, Scribblenauts and Johnny Test. Environments in the game are also varied enough to keep from becoming too repetitive. The soundtrack of Nuclear Outrun also fits the game nicely featuring the music of punk band The Skank Agents out of San Diego, Califonia.
Nuclear Outrun is a fun game, and best of all, it's free! It's difficult to argue against a game that offers some fun gameplay without costing a penny to the player. There are some in-game purchases for some of the game's cooler items, but these can be avoided mostly. Nuclear Outrun hits the App Store on July 18, 2013 and is scheduled to arrive for Android devices over Google Play in the near future, so get ready to drive off into the nuclear sunset in Nuclear Outrun!
Nuclear Outrun is now available exclusively for iOS and is coming soon to Android. Nuclear Outrun is now yet rated. For more information on Nuclear Outrun, check out the official Gamenauts website.
