The Guild: The Official Companion (Book Review)

Titan Books has released the new book The Guild: The Official Companion which gives fans the inside details on the popular web series The Guild starring Felicia Day. Before Felicia played Charlie on Supernatural or Holly Marten on Eureka, she was Codex on The Guild.

The book opens with an introduction from Felicia Day herself and tells the story of how The Guild came about and how it became what it is today. It is quite an inspirational story, because the idea was simple enough, she just wanted to make something she loved and had no idea it would blow up like it has. The Guild was ahead of its time in regards to web series since YouTube was brand-new and it was a time before Twitter or KickStarter. When Felicia pitched the idea of the web series, it was a time when studio executives didn't even know what it was or even how gamers could talk to each other online. Yeah, it just seems crazy to think about.

The Guild: The Official Companion is full of behind-the-scene imagery and in-depth interviews with the cast of the show. Basically, almost anything that you ever wanted to know about the show, the characters and the actors themselves, is inside this book! It is a very intriguing and entertaining book that was hard to put down once you started reading it. I have been a fan of the web series since the beginning, and it is always fun to pick up a book such as this, and learn about the ins-and-outs of the show. As you read through all of the interviews, you start to see Felicia Day is just like all of us, and she gets just as fan girly over things as the rest of us.

The Guild: The Official Companion has images of the initial outline for the show and even scribbled notes that show that Zaboo's character was initially called Puck. The book is beautifully designed and laid out in such a way that it keeps the writing fresh all the way to the end. The book is like opening up a treasure-trove of goodies for die-hard fans of The Guild and is a piece of history that should be picked up immediately. To wrap things up here is a quote from Joss Whedon that appears on the back of The Guild: The Official Companion: "Her mind works faster than mine ever will and her mouth works faster than that. Felicia's career will go where she decides it will. Plus, she'll probably rule Asia and invent a new color. I fear her."

Score: 9 out of 10
