Overwolf Reveals Preview of Their New CrowdPlay TPG Toolset

Overwolf has announced that fans can now preview their new CrowdPlay feature entitled TPG (Twitch Play games) toolset. Read on.

Overwolf, developers of the free PC app with a community of over 7.5 million gamers, today announced they’re previewing the upcoming CrowdPlay feature, a TPG (Twitch Play games) toolset set that lets viewers play games together by entering commands into the chat. The first Overwolf-built TPG is happening right now on Overwolf’s TwitchCrowdPlay channel on Twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/twitchcrowdplay) with the timeless classic Final Fantasy VI.

“Twitch and its community are redefining the way games can be played,” said Uri Marchand, CEO of Overwolf. “Streaming services such as Twitch are becoming platforms in their own right so we wanted to create a tool that makes developing streaming-games for the platform easier than ever."

Programming TPGs (such as the recent Twitch Plays Pokemon) is no simple task. To simplify the process, Overwolf is building tools so that anyone with a basic level of technological sophistication can set up their own crowdplay events. Commands are parsed through the Twitch channel's chat room and every message entered will affect the game itself. Viewers do not need the app to play, this Final Fantasy VI event is meant to show what kind of TPGs gamers can soon construct with Overwolf’s tools.
