First Look At SteelSeries' The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse, Gaming Headset and Mousepad (Video Game Accessories)

SteelSeries has announced a new collaboration with the Maxis development team, The Sims Studio, to produce a new line of gaming accessories to coincide with the upcoming release of The Sims 4. We were able to get a first-look at the new gaming mouse, gaming headset and mousepad from SteelSeries to go along with our early impressions of The Sims 4 which showed plenty of improvements and innovations for the new game. Fans will find all new emotions and ways to interact with their Sims characters including new personality traits, a Gallery mode to share content and ways to actually die from laughter. The Sims 4 looks as though it may be the best release in the popular game series, and fans won't have to wait long to get their hands on the game with it scheduled to release for PC on September 2, 2014.

The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse

The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse from SteelSeries offers players the perfect companion piece for the game this September. The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse doesn't look like anything too impressive until players hook up the new mouse to the game. The mouse includes a built-in LED light that functions alongside The Sims 4 to have the mouse light up to match the mood of Sims characters in the game. If the light is green, the character is happy and probably has no current issues. The mouse will also light up red when a Sims character is angry or blue when a Sims character is feeling inspired. It's a great way to keep track of the emotional state of characters in the game even when occupied with other aspects of the game.

Though The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse includes a Sims shaped LED light in the shape of the classic Sims icon, the rest of the accessory's design looks pretty basic. The mouse is colored white and grey with a left click, right click and mouse wheel. The mouse also hides two additional buttons on the side of the mouse that can be customized and used for extra commands while playing the game. The simple shape of the mouse features a main unit that is balanced and smooth across both sides. This ambidextrous design allows both right and left-handed gamers to easily find the mouse accessible, a feature that is less common in the gaming industry than what we'd like to see.

Other features for The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse include customized CPI settings that controls how slow or fast a mouse pointer moves during games. This allows The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse to be a good choice across a variety of games beyond The Sims 4. Fans will find the mouse is a high quality product that is very responsive and has enough customization options to put it right up there with some of the better mouse accessories on the market. The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse isn't a must own product for fans of The Sims 4, but it's pretty close.

The Sims 4 Gaming Headset

The Sims 4 Gaming Headset is another great accessory from the SteelSeries line that will release in time for the launch of The Sims 4. The Sims 4 Gaming Headset matches The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse in color choices and design and also includes access to SteelSeries Engine 3 to allow gamers to fully customize the experience. Fans will also be able to enjoy the same Sims icon design integrated in the design of the SteelSeries headset that has the LED light up with a color that corresponds with the mood of a Sims character. The feature isn't nearly as useful when used on the headset though, as gamers would need a mirror or other reflective surface in their room in order to actually see what colors are currently lit up on either earpiece. The placement of the lights on The Sims 4 Gaming Headset is one of the few design choices we couldn't really get behind in the new SteelSeries line of gaming accessories.

One of the best features of The Sims 4 Gaming Headset is its lightweight design. The Sims 4 Gaming Headset doesn't have quite the same amount of features and options as high end headsets on the market, but players will find the mic definitely won't weigh them down even over long game sessions. The headset is wired and has no option to make it wireless. The device uses a 20mm driver and connects through a USB 2.0 connector. One other good design choice allows users to control the headset's volume or mute the device from an earpiece rather than a controller located away from the actual headset.

The Sims 4 Gaming Headset is a device that is easily capable of producing good quality voice recognition and also giving players a comfortable accessory to wear on their heads. The headset includes plenty of cushion support in each earpiece as well as the headset's headband. The combined comfort and lightweight design makes The Sims 4 Gaming Headset one of the most comfortable we've ever worn. The lack of any real bonus features for the headset will make some gamers look for different devices that can fulfill their needs, but the device is a solid entry level headset with a neat design that fans of The Sims 4 will want to pick up with the new game's release.

The Sims 4 Mousepad

The last product in the SteelSeries' new line of video game accessories is The Sims 4 Mousepad. The product is made from special QcK cloth that allows players to easily slide a mouse across the surface of the accessory without sacrificing any accuracy in games. The accessory also has a well designed bottom that makes it stick to most surfaces with ease and prevent the mousepad from ever sliding out of place unintentionally.

The Sims 4 Mousepad from SteelSeries is a medium-sized mousepad that measures 12"x10". Players won't find the large surface area present with some other mousepads, but this also makes the mousepad more convenient for players with smaller desks. The mousepad features a really fun logo on its top featuring characters from The Sims 4. The Sims 4 Mousepad from SteelSeries is soft, yet durable, and includes some great designs from The Sims 4 that makes is a great choice to use along with The Sims 4 Gaming Mouse to use while playing The Sims 4 when it releases this September. Gamers may have to wait until September 2nd to try out The Sims 4 gaming accessories from SteelSeries, but we are confident that the mouse, headset and mousepad will be a MUST-BUY for any diehard fan wanting the complete Sims experience!  Make sure to check back this September to see our full review of how the new SteelSeries accessories compare when put to the test for long durations of time in The Sims 4!

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...

Step Back in Time at Ole Towne Café in Ardmore

If you’ve ever wished you could step into your grandma’s kitchen and smell fresh biscuits baking while bacon sizzles in the skillet, Ole Towne Café in Ardmore, Alabama, is the next best thing. Tucked along Main Street, this little diner doesn’t just serve food—it serves nostalgia. Walking in, you’re greeted with that small-town charm you just can’t fake. The walls are lined with country décor, the coffee flows like a friendly neighbor’s gossip, and everyone seems to know everyone else. Even if you’re new in town, you’ll feel like family after your first cup of coffee. The menu is straight out of a Southern comfort cookbook. The catfish plates are fried to crispy perfection, the hamburger steaks come smothered in gravy that tastes like Sunday supper, and the breakfast plates are legendary—big fluffy pancakes, biscuits as big as your hand, and hash browns that come golden and crispy.
