Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort is set to release this Halloween, and we recently got to chat with actress Sadie Katz about her role as Sally in the horror movie. In the interview, Sadie discusses how she got cast in the new film, the emotional & physical demand it had on her and much more. Read on.
BGG AFTER DARK: What do you believe the producers were looking for in the part you were cast in in Wrong Turn : Last Resort? Someone with a good set of lungs?
SADIE KATZ: (laughter) Jeff Beach, one of the producers on the project was actually at the call back and Scott Webster, was the casting director and they were very much looking for someone with a very good set of acting chops. Frank Woodworth wrote a surprisingly complex female character in Sally. Not that the other characters weren‘t complex just Sally has a lot of levels. So, they were looking for someone who was looking to dive quickly into all those levels head first. Hopefully, that comes across on screen. I love that shit.
BGG AFTER DARK: Was it a physically-demanding movie or more an emotionally-draining one?
SADIE KATZ: You’re not suppose to say this when you’re on set…it’s kind of a no-no so you just grin and bare it which I did…but, I hate being cold. I’m from Southern California. I’m an Orange County girl and when we first started shooting it was night shoots in the snow. That’s cold for me. I’m wearing this cute, white dress and the thinnest possible brown boots ever. In between takes I had like, thank god for the crew…5 crew members rubbing 5 water bottle filled with hot water over me to stop me from shaking- they’d throw ever wool blanket imaginable trying to get me warm and we’d go again. I’d hear rolling and your brain just goes in work mode and it’s weird I’d just stop shaking and be in the scene. The next morning I’d wake up and feel like I worked out I realized it was because, I was shaking so hard! Emotionally, it was kind of amazing. I don’t want to give anything away…but, it was a trip for me because, I had to access a part of me that had never been that brave to take so many chances in front of so many people I just met. I grew internally. Whether the critics love or hate what I did…I gave it my all and that’s really all you can do at the end of the day. When I got home I slept for a week.
BGG AFTER DARK: We’ve read that this is a remake or reboot of the series; how much so?
SADIE KATZ: I don’t know if that’s entirely accurate. I mean…it’s still giving the fans what the love. It’s gory, it’s campy….it’s fun. But, it also going deeper into the series itself. There’s some new characters. A new back story. The sex scenes are sexier. It’s got a new director, it’s got a new writer…Frank Woodworth who really gives the story an arch. It’s got all the old stuff you love, the baddies the fans are expecting…that creepy truck- why is that truck so creepy??? It just is. The locations are bigger. It’s just not what you’d expect from a number six in a series. Which, is kind of I think at least, hey…don’t shoot the messenger a thank you from 20th Century Fox to the fans for sticking with the series and staying so steadfast and loyal. I mean, Wrongturn or Wrongturners…as they call themselves are just like the best fans ever. They’re surprisingly sweet as pie too! I love them!
BGG AFTER DARK: The movie premiered at Frightfest in the UK. How did it go?
SADIE KATZ: I don’t know totally I wasn’t there! Isn’t that sad? Ha…Anthony Ilot and Roxanne Pallette went and did the red carpet and look way sexy and worked it. They said it went really well and we got a couple of great reviews…no bad ones so far. The fans dug it. They loved it. They also had a private screening on the lot which Roxy and Anthony said was loads of fun. I wish I would have been there but, was excited for Anthony and Roxy. Anthony shot almost every single day of the film. He worked his ass off. He’s a really wonderful actor. He studied on the West End and he filming a pilot in the UK and will be heading to the US to meet with the big agencies here I wouldn’t be surprised if we heard him start blowing up. That guy has talent and charisma just dripping and he’s a pretty sweet guy. Roxanne, I should add is a major celeb in the UK and has been on a long running soap opera there as well as their version of “Dancing With the Stars” she’s the absolute coolest chick I describe her in a million ways but, all I have to say is her favorite movie is “Rocky.” Boom…’nuff said.
BGG AFTER DARK: Did you bond with your castmates?
SADIE KATZ: My last question probably went into it a bit. To say we all absolute adored each other would be an understatement. Rollo Skinner is coming to stay with me next month for a week & Aqueela for a week, Anthony visited in the Summer and is visiting again, my door is open for everyone in the cast. I keep hoping I can get Foxy Roxy (laughter), to come visit. I have only wonderful things to say about each and every one. If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook you’d see we’re all kind of gross with the “I love you’s and I miss you’s.” It was a magical experience flanked with a lot of blood and gore – I guess that’s what happens when you watch your friends get ripped to shreds every day. Weird. Maybe, it was also the tremendous amount of wine and cigarettes consumed after wrapping in the evenings. But, you didn’t hear that from me.
BGG AFTER DARK: Does the film leave the door open for a Wrong Turn 7? Possibly with you in it?
SADIE KATZ: I have no idea what you’re asking me and you’re not getting me in trouble. Tricky.
