Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (Video Game Review)

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection combines Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and all available DLC for both games in a shiny new package. The new release is a great deal for fans that have yet to play both games, and the inclusion of all DLC means nearly every gamer will find some new content to explore in the collection. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and includes improved graphics for next generation consoles. Both games included in the collection have never looked better, and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection packs hundreds of hours of content into a single disc for a great price.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection features both titles from the Borderlands series to include Handsome Jack as a main character. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place chronologically between the events of the first and second game of the series and sees the rise of Handsome Jack who gains control of an army of robots on the moon with help from four new vault hunters. Borderlands 2 concludes Jack's narrative back on Pandora. Both games feature excellent storylines full of laughs and entertaining gameplay the series has always been known for.

The additional DLC seen in the collection brings the cast of playable characters up to 12 across both games. Most of the DLC is worth purchasing seperately, so the fact that all of it is included free of charge in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, makes the new release a real bargain. Additionally, players will find DLC released alongside the launch of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection in Claptastic Voyage and Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2. The content adds an additional DLC campaign to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel where players battle inside the mind of CL4P-TP's mind to find the mysterious H-Source code. The new content also adds 10 more levels for players to earn in the new missions.

One great feature included in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is the ability to import save files from last generation Borderlands saves to the next generation collection. The imported data will include nearly everything the player had unlocked in the original games minus items stored in Claptrap's Secret Stash in Borderlands 2 and Golden Keys from the original games, though players will be awarded 75 golden keys as thanks for playing both last generation titles and the new game.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection improves the visuals from Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel to allow players to experience both games in an improved 1080p, 60 frames per second presentation. Both games look great running across either next generation console, and both seem to have almost no problems running at a locked framerate. The only real drawback found in the presentation of the collection is the frustrating need to completely close out the game to switch from playing Borderlands 2 to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and vice versa.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is a good deal for fans that played on or both games on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, and the collection is nearly a must own for shooter fans that haven't played either. The improved visuals are nice, but the shooting, looting and colorful characters featured in these games make both classics that need to be played by all gamers. The titles pack many hours of content, and the additional DLC makes the new release a fantastic deal that most gamers would be foolish to pass up. Tame your own Butt Stallion in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is now available from most major retailers and can be purchased for the MSRP of $59.99 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is rated M by the ESRB for Blood, Language, Sexual Themes & Violence.
