King’s Quest: A Knight To Remember (Video Game Review)

Sierra and The Odd Gentleman have announced the release of King's Quest: A Knight to Remember for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC for $9.99. In the first episode of the re-imagined series, players start out in a storybook like adventue that leads into a trip down a wishing well and a small door like something out of Alice in Wonderland. Once our adventurer heads into this small cramped space we are inside a dark and eerie cavern inhabited by a ferocious dragon. Let's get this adventure underway!

The game is almost like an interactive story-book where King Graham is telling his young granddaughter the adventurous tales of his younger days. The story is voiced by an older Graham (Christopher Lloyd) in such a delightful way that you can't help but to fall in love with King's Quest: A Knight to Remember from the very start. If you misstep during your adventure, the grand daughter is quick to make a few grandpa jokes, before you are giving the option to retry your last move. The puzzles are very simple in the beginning and slowly introduce you to the gameplay mechanics while trying to figure out to reclaim the golden mirror from the dragon's grasp.

The animations in King's Quest: A Knight to Remember are incredibly beautiful and detailed which adds to the overall immersiveness of the intricate storyline. The title is so incredibly clever and cute that you are automatically drawn in through the charming method in which it is told that you can not stop playing once you start.

The title is something that the entire family can enjoy, and we definitely recommend parents playing through King's Quest: A Knight to Remember with their children because of the beautiful way in which the story unfolds. The game also handles the concept of death in a very clever way through narration techniques by Graham.

While gamers may find that the new release of King's Quest: A Knight to Remember is a little less hardcore than the original--it still holds the some of the same gameplay elements and charm that you previously enjoyed with intricate animations and impeccable voice acting to boot. The five hour episode will manage to take gamers on a linear adventure turned sandbox with a mixture of platforming, puzzle-solving and first-person shooting giving it a unique spin.

In the end, King's Quest: A Knight to Remember was a fantastic journey on the Xbox One with exquisite storytelling, fantastic voice-acting, and action-packed fun to keep you entertained until the very end. If you like episodic titles from companies like Telltale Games then you are going to love King's Quest: A Knight to Remember!

Score: 9.5 out of 10
