BioGamer Girl went hands-on with the DOOM Multiplayer Closed Beta last week and we have our impressions of the game right here. Read on.
id Software and Bethesda are bringing back one of the old classics that every gamer should know and that is DOOM! I remember playing DOOM in the nineties and being horrifically terrified while shooting my way through hordes of demons to complete the game. The new generation of DOOM is here and while it may not be exactly as you remember--it definitely makes an impression.
So lets get actually get to the gameplay and our impressions, shall we? After booting up the game, I finally came to the main menu and the epic opening sequence. From the very start I was impressed by the game's dedication to gore and violence, done perfectly in true DOOM fashion, leading the gamer into the horrific story ahead.
The new DOOM focuses on very fast paced mechanics on top of hardcore firepower for some very engaging gameplay. The game is still in beta but it was already very impressive in regards to its visuals, animations and soundtrack. DOOM has been upgraded for modern day gamers and had some of the same elements that you can see in most shooters today. However, it was still a blast becoming a revenant, and then clawing and blasting my way through multiplayer matches.
The DOOM Multiplayer Closed Beta gave gamers access to two game modes that included Warpath and Team Deathmatch. Warpath involved controlling specific areas for certain amounts of time while Team Deathmatch had two teams battling it out to the death. These multiplayer modes also both had impressive maps with one looking like Hell itself and the other being an industrial complex that appeared to be an experiment gone totally wrong. Out of the two modes, I specifically preferred Warpath and found it to be more replayable and fun.
DOOM, like any shooter, allows access to better items, weapons and skills through leveling up and unlocking new content. You start out with only two weapons and can adjust your loadout to fit your playstyle as you progress throughout the game.
In the end, I enjoyed the new modern day DOOM and think it has a lot of potential for hardcore fans once it releases. I would definitely recommend that diehard DOOM fans check out the Open Beta starting at the end of next week and decide for yourself. To learn more, visit the official DOOM website.
Recommendation: Must-Play
