Lovely Planet Arcade (Video Game Review)

TinyBuild and QuickTequila have released Lovely Planet Arcade on PC.

Lovely Planet Arcade is the sequel to the 2014 critical hit, Lovely Planet. The FPS turned puzzle shooter is now available on Steam for $5.99. Lovely Planet Arcade features action-packed gameplay that will take players soaring across the skies while shooting bullets into the clouds.

Lovely Planet Arcade features pastel colors and a childish essence mixed with the hardcore action of a first-person shooter. You must speed-run through levels using your trusty bow while shooting out purple cubes at your enemies. The clock is forever ticking as you make your way across levels wiping out various enemies while leaving the neutral characters in one piece. Players must utilize a wide array of advanced moves and mechanics to reach the end of this colorful rainbow.

The puzzle aspects of Lovely Planet Arcade are incredibly ingenious and a real treat to master. However, the gameplay can be incredibly repetitive as you try to master each level through hours of relentless practice.

While the soundtrack and aesthetics of Lovely Planet Arcade make it an instant charmer, the overall gameplay may be just too difficult and intense for most gamers. The game focuses entirely on speed and accuracy making every decision matter. Every time you die and are taken back to the start of the level--you learn some new methods to survive but this still can get relentlessly annoying after a few dozen times.

For a game that focuses on accuracy, your weapon features no aiming reticule and you have to aim up your bow perfectly to take down your target. You earn stars for completing objectives throughout each level and there is a ton of replayability in trying to improve your performance within each game.

As you make your way through Lovely Planet Arcade trying to take down all the greenmen as quickly as possible, you soon realize that you have zero room for error, creating a tense and suspenseful game environment. Gamers will progress and objectives will become more difficult to complete. There are over a hundred levels to master which adds a great deal of replayability to Lovely Planet Arcade.

In the end, Lovely Planet Arcade has some very intriguing moments but this can be overshadowed by the game's difficulty and repetition. To learn more, visit the official Lovely Planet Arcade Steam page.

The demo covers your first four days on the job, teaching the systems while nudging you toward choices, obey protocol and keep the peace, or pry at the seams and uncover the post office’s darker purpose.
