Livelock (Video Game Review)

Perfect World Entertainment has released Livelock for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Livelock is a new fast-paced cooperative top-down shooter for consoles and PC based in a post-human world. This decimated universe takes place in the 22nd century were machines are waging against each other. The player is thrust into the corrupted world almost a century after the initial cataclysm where you attempt to restore humanity.

A group of corrupted machines called Clusters control what is left of the planet and are fighting each other for control of what resources remain. Players will step in the mechanical body of a Capital Intellect that has been uploaded with human consciousness. Gamers will have a large arsenal at hand that includes a variety of weapons and special abilities. In order to prevent infinite war, the Capital Intellect is tasked with taking down the Clusters before humanity is completely forgotten.

Livelock lets players take control of three mechanical chassis that includes Hex, Vanguard and Catalyst. Hex uses precision weapons to deal targeted damage and various tools to out maneuver the competition. Vanguard uses his mighty fists and hammer to take down hordes of enemies. While Catalyst uses her leadership abilities to command a squad of drones to do her dirty work.

The user interface for Livelock is a bit wonky since you can't switch between characters swiftly when starting a game and some of the animations between chapters could be more graphically appealing. With Livelock's flaws aside, the title does feature around 21 chapters in its campaign mode and over fifty achievements, giving the player around 10 hours of playtime alongside a ton of replayability. So you can definitely get your money's worth when purchasing Livelock. In the end, Livelock is a fun co-op shooter with its intrinsic level design, beautiful aesthetics, and fantastic voice acting. The responsive controls alongside its action packed gameplay are sure to keep you and your friends entertained for hours on end. If you have been looking for a unique twin stick shooter to play with others than look no further with Livelock. To learn more, visit the official Livelock website.
