Chroma Squad Review (PS4)

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and Behold Studios have released Chroma Squad.

Inspired by Saban’s Power Rangers, Chroma Squad is a tactical RPG that has released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Chroma Squad has colorful sprite-based graphics that remind you of your favorite old-school games with a humor-filled Tokusatsu style story.

Chroma Squad allows gamers to take charge of a bright team of five stunt actors who make the choice to quit their jobs and become superheroes. The fun part about Chroma Squad is that you can actually create your own TV shows through customizing and equipping their teams for turn-based battles.

Chroma Squad was funded by Kickstarter and is a simplistic game with a huge punch of entertainment. The team of stunt actors are assisted in their new quest by the mysterious artifact known as the Cerebro. As you make your new team of heroes, you must assign their traits, roles and colors. The game even allows you to make special catchphrases to make your team of heroes feel like your very own.

The Chroma Squad want to be famous just as much as they want to be heroes. So you set up your episodes while they use all of their abilities (such as Teamwork mode) to take down the baddies and get one step closer to stardom. Another exciting aspect of the game is that you can actually summon a giant mecha to help you fight!

The battles in Chroma Squad are fairly simple, but you can challenge yourself by following the director's commands that come from off-screen. If you do meet the director's demands, then you will also gain even more fans for your bad-ass show. The goal of the game is to take down bad guys while also keeping your production studio up and running. The success of one drastically impacts the other. If you do well at hiring marketing firms and upgrading your production equipment, then that leads to more fans and cash to get the tools you need to take down the baddies. The game can become a little too easy as you progress. Once you max out most of your resources than it almost seems as if the game could literally carry on without you.

All-in-all, Chroma Squad manages to create a sweet mix of charm and nostalgia that you can't help but to embrace and love. To learn more, visit the official Chroma Squad website.
