Grape Varieties & On-Farm Products

GNH Muscadine Farm offers three distinctive muscadine varieties: Noble, Magnolia, and Scuppernong, each showcasing the South’s signature grape character. Noble’s thick skins and high sugar content yield deep, complex reds bursting with blackberry, plum, and a touch of spice. Magnolia grapes, with their lighter body and bright fruit notes, lend themselves beautifully to crisp rosés and softer reds. And classic Scuppernongs are perfect straight off the vine or cooked down into sumptuous jams. Packed with natural sugars and hearty skins, these grapes welcome both first-time winemakers and seasoned vintners to craft truly Southern vintages.

Tips for a Seamless Day at the Vineyard

Choose the right footwear and sun protection

Opt for comfortable, closed-toe shoes with good traction to navigate uneven rows. Top it off with a wide-brim hat, sunglasses, and broad-spectrum sunscreen to stay cool and shielded under the Alabama sun.

Bring the perfect harvesting kit

GNH Muscadine Farm offers sturdy buckets and sharp pruners for hassle-free picking. If you have your own favorite shears or colander, feel free to bring them along.

• Keep grapes fresh with a quality cooler

Pack an insulated cooler and ice packs to maintain optimal temperature and preserve sugar levels in your muscadines before crushing. Chilled grapes yield brighter flavors in your final vintage.

• Stay informed with live updates

Visit GNHFarm.com or follow the farm’s social channels for real-time ripeness reports, flash picking events, and seasonal workshops. Knowing peak harvest windows helps you time your visit perfectly.

• Extend the experience with a picnic or local adventure

Spread out a blanket beneath the vine canopy for a homemade snack, then head to nearby Lake Guntersville State Park or Jules Berta Winery for a scenic hike or tasting flight to round out your day.

Harvesting your own muscadines under the warm Alabama sun is just the beginning of an unforgettable winemaking journey. At GNH Muscadine Farm, you’re not only collecting grapes, you’re capturing the essence of the season and crafting a wine that’s uniquely yours. There’s something special about seeing a great musician in a room that feels personal—where the stories are just as powerful as the songs. That’s exactly what the audience experienced on March 7, 2026 at 7:30 PM during “An Evening with Brother Cane’s Damon Johnson” at Back Forty Ballroom in downtown Fort Payne, Alabama. The venue itself sets the tone before the first note is even played. Back Forty Ballroom is tucked inside the beautifully restored W.B. Davis Hosiery Mill, a building that has stood in Fort Payne since 1889. Instead of stripping away the building’s history, the restoration celebrates it. Original brick walls, aged wooden beams, and warm ambient lighting create an atmosphere that feels both historic and welcoming. Walking into the ballroom feels like stepping into a piece of Alabama’s past—yet everything about the space is perfectly suited for modern events. The open layout, soft glow of string lights, and rustic textures make it ideal for weddings, concerts, and gathe...
