Backrooms Level X - Wander endless corridors, follow faint audio cues, and outpace the thing in the shadows before the maze remembers you. (Game Review)

I stepped into a corridor lined with yellow carpet, the lights buzzing softly overhead. A chill ran down my spine. Backrooms Level X pulls you into a world that makes you feel small, lost, and a bit uneasy for daring to look behind the door.

You’re stuck in a place that doesn’t make sense. Find your way out.

You wake up lost in a strange, endless maze. The game throws you into long corridors, empty rooms, and flickering lights, with shadowy figures lurking just out of sight. Your mission is clear… explore your surroundings, solve puzzles, and stay one step ahead of whatever’s chasing you!

Backrooms Level X is a first-person horror game that drops you into a vast, eerie labyrinth filled with desolate, surreal spaces. It mixes exploration, light puzzles, and stealth survival. Most of your time is spent figuring out confusing layouts, tuning into subtle sounds, and gathering tiny story clues that hint at the mystery behind it all.

Watch the trailer here:

Keep moving. Stay alert. Find cover. Do it again… until you can’t.

You move through rooms, searching for clues and solving environmental puzzles to open the way forward. Some rooms ask you to flip switches or step on panels; others challenge you to dodge hazards and massive enemies. The cycle is quick and tense: explore, face a threat, then press on.

The game focuses on exploration, sound-driven tension, and occasional puzzles. Movement and camera angles are tight on purpose, making you feel uneasy. Sounds hint at nearby enemies and puzzle progress. Boss fights shake things up with sudden, big threats that test your timing and path choices.

The difficulty leans toward uneasy. Instead of constant dread, you get sudden spikes of tension. Some moments hit hard, others fall flat. To get good, you need to learn the layouts, trust your ears, and stay calm when the lights flicker.

It unsettles you by twisting the familiar into something just a little wrong.

The colors lean toward sickly yellows, dull grays, and harsh fluorescent lights. The spaces feel reused and just a bit off, which deepens the liminal atmosphere even when you notice the same details popping up again.

A steady low buzz, distant thuds, and sharp mechanical clangs fill the air. Footsteps and soft hisses reveal more than any on-screen display ever could.

Visuals and sound focus on making you feel uneasy rather than impressing with flashy effects. The tight field of view and VHS-style glitches pull you into a close, tense experience instead of big, cinematic scares.

Scares on your own, stories shared with friends.

Backrooms Level X is a solo experience. The community buzzes through clips and chats where players share the strangest corridors they’ve found and the funniest ways they’ve met their end. It’s the kind of game you show friends for a laugh or a chill.

Replay value hinges on how much you dig the atmosphere. With thirteen levels and a mix of set pieces, there’s some variety, but runs can feel brief. If you like exploring maps and uncovering secrets, you’ll find yourself coming back to discover better routes and hidden spots.

Backrooms Level X delivers moments of liminal creepiness that come and go, sometimes hitting hard, sometimes fading quickly.

It captures the unsettling feeling of being lost in a familiar place that’s just a little off. Some levels bring genuine dread, while others feel a bit rushed or glitchy. This isn’t a polished, nonstop horror experience. But if you’re after a few well-crafted, eerie moments and don’t mind some rough edges, it’s worth checking out.
