Grantoo is a new social gaming platform that will bring together interested and aspiring college students with representatives from gaming companies to help the growth of the gaming industry. Grantoo will be hosting a closed beta of its first video tournament on March 25, 2012. The grand prize winner for the event will receive grants to go towards college tuition with an option to donate a portion to charity as well. Read on for more details!
From the Official Press Release
This tournament comes just before Grantoo’s official launch, which will open up gameplay and tournaments for college students throughout universities across the country. Grantoo will host tournaments every week, giving college students multiple chances to play against one another to win both educational grants and donations for the causes they care about. Students can participate in online tournaments of popular casual games like word puzzles, poker, and trivia, all with a special Grantoo twist. They play to win educational grants that help pay off rising tuition costs. Grantoo also encourages students to “Do GooD” by pledging a minimum of 10% of their winnings to a charity of their choice. “Students are spending hours each week playing games. We want to make that gaming time more productive and rewarding for both the player and the society they live in,” said Grantoo Co-founder Dimitri Sillam. “While students continue playing games they enjoy, we are also encouraging a lifelong mentality of giving back.” At the same time, Grantoo helps businesses connect with college-age consumers by sponsoring tournaments and integrating brands into the games themselves. In doing so, companies are able to showcase the corporate giving that often goes unnoticed by consumers. Grantoo’s partner companies sponsor each tournament knowing that the prizes go toward educational costs and charitable donations. Grantoo is giving students more reasons to play by combining gaming with social good and brand connections.
