Music Spotlight: Composer Kevin Riepl

Here at BioGamer Girl, we know one of the most vital parts to the success of any video game is the game's soundtrack. If you don't believe us, think back to some of the all-time great games such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. Sure these two games are remembered for their classic gameplay and influential characters, but the overall gaming experience would never have been the same without the pivotal themes created by legendary video game composer Koji Kondo. Fast forward nearly 20 years, and many gamers would consider composer Kevin Riepl the modern Koji Kondo for his important contributions to the gaming industry.

Riepl has been composing music professionally for television, films and video games for over 10 years with some of his biggest contributions including creating original songs for Epic Games' Unreal Tournament and Gears of War series. Riepl has also made significant contributions to television and film industries including the work he did on the television shows Inavder Zim, Xiaolin Showdown and Johnny Test. Riepl has also recently completed work on a number of new and upcoming projects including the films The Aggression Scale and Dead Shadows and the video games Aliens: Colonial Marines, Hunted: The Demon's Forge and Resistance: Burning Skies--for which he composed forty minutes of compelling orchestral music. With all of these musical credits to his name, Kevin Riepl may just be the best modern gaming composer out there today!
