Pearl Harbor: Fire on the Water (Video Game Review)

Pearl Harbor: Fire on the Water is a arcade-styled shooter that places you in control of a battleship during the notorious invasions of the Japanese military around 1941. However, the game's storyline is a little more than this setting with the only other tidbits of information coming from a seemingly omniscient presence that gives you your orders. You are also given random quotes during the loading screens between stages, but these do not coincide with the story, and are more or less there as motivation and entertainment while waiting for the game to load.

Once you start up Pearl Harbor: Fire on the Water then you simply sit back, click your mouse and watch your torpedoes and lasers fire slowly towards enemy ships moving across the background. You are awarded points for damaging and sinking ships, and there are upgrades to collect and mines to destroy that will damage nearby ships. Still, this however will not keep the game interesting for very long, as you are essentially repeating the same process over and over in different venues. If you ever enjoyed the classic board game Battleship then Pearl Harbor: Fire on the Water's presentation may be something that you would enjoy.

The game's menus are not as sophisticated as they could be, and the in-game HUD could also be improved. The lack of color or vividness makes it very difficult to know which weapon you have currently equipped, how much time is left or any other important information needed during the game. The graphics and the animations in the game are neither terribly bad nor eye candy, but this is the only part of the presentation that can be considered as highly rated as average. The loud rock music must also be dealt with promptly upon starting a game too, as it manages to drown out any of the game's important sound effects. Essentially Pearl Harbor: Fire on the Water can be entertaining for short periods while being educational at the same time. You can download the trial version of Pearl Harbor: Fire on the Water today, and experience the game for yourself. There is a lot of content in the full version if you do find you like the game and decide to purchase it. If you want to reminiscence those feelings of playing Battleship or arcade games from your childhood then this just might be the game for you.
