Prototype 2 is the follow up title to the hit original Prototype. This time around, you will be introduced to a new protagonist with amazing new abilities and a desolated New York split into three affected areas as the Blackwatch virus spreads throughout the city. The city is more open for exploration than ever before, and after all, the only thing more fun than laying waste to your enemies is destroying the very buildings surrounding them.
Prototype 2's main protagonist is Sgt. James Heller--an ex-marine now turned vigilante in the name of avenging his family.
After the Blackwatch virus consumed his wife and kid, a rage took over Heller that could not be contained, and Alex Mercer must pay. A confrontation with Mercer leaves Heller with the same virus pumping through his veins and the power to make Blackwatch and Mercer pay for what they've done. It's time to nut up or shut up! The tragic tale of revenge is complimented nicely here with very entertaining gameplay. You will have Mercer's typical arsenal and them some, as you bash some skulls with the Hammerfist and rip others apart with your Whipfist, or you can string enemies up in those nasty tendrils for even more effective attacks.
You can have two primary powers or attacks equipped at one time, and this allows for smoother transitions from one fighting style to another than in the original game's control scheme. You'll also gain experience points from killing enemies or completing special objectives during missions. These points can be used to level up Heller by granting him statistical bonuses and more powerful activated and passive abilities. If you ever tire of the main plot's missions, Prototype 2 has plenty of side missions to conquer and hidden collectibles to find. It can also be a blast to simply explore the massive city running at super speeds, gliding through the air and leaping over buildings better than Superman himself.
Of course if you'd like, Heller can also jump into helicopters and tanks to travel around New York in style. And speaking of style, Prototype 2 is an amazing looking game. Despite all the fast action and often chaotic encounters with enemies, Prototype 2 manages to consistently run smooth and keep the same fantastic graphics through any absurd amount of animations you can throw at the game at one time. The game has a nice soundtrack that sets up just the right mood to rip apart those dirty Blackwatch soldiers, and the game's sound effects really suck you into the game as well.
Prototype 2 is one of those games that you just can't seem to put down. The addictive nature of fighting off enemies with the power of the Blackwatch virus running through your system is truly a thing of beauty, and being able to unlock more moves as you progress through the game will keep you glued to your seat until you've successfully completed the game. With the addition of fun side quests and an expansive city to explore, you'll want to keep coming back to Prototype 2 long after you've completed the main story. Do yourself a favor and go pick up Prototype 2, and let the chaos ensue!
