Fortix 2 is the newest release from Hungarian game developer Nemesys Games. The game is a sequel to the cult favorite Fortix that released a couple of years back. Fortix 2 is not unlike the classic arcade title Qix, but the design has been refined over the last few decades, and this newest release is one of the most addictive games you can find for handhelds, tablets or PC.
Fortix 2 places you in control of a brave knight named Fortix, as he attempts to rid his kingdom of an evil demon and free his cursed land from the demon's grasp. There will be many monsters attempting to thwart your attempts at freeing the land, but you have the advantage. Your sword is merely decoration, since freeing the land also removes any monsters within the boundaries of the land. Fortix 2 doesn't feature a dynamic story, but in this type of game, it's not really a necessity. The unique style of play can be described as a reverse tower defense game. This basically means you control Fortix as he attempts to navigate dangerous paths while destroying hazardous sniper towers, dragons and other enemies. You'll begin stages only being safe on the outskirts of the map, but as you box in new areas, the curse on the land will break allowing you to use any items within the area and killing enemies caught inside these parameters as well. It's a unique concept that hasn't been seen much in gaming, especially recently, but the addictive nature of Fortix 2 shows this style of gameplay should be utilized more often.
Fortix 2 has an above average presentation with its colorful graphics, catchy sound effects, whimsical music, and tight control scheme. It would've been nice to see more stages included in the game, as you can blow through the entire game in a day or two. Still, each stage is a blast to play through and the difficulty setting allows you to play through and increase the challenge as you go. Fortix 2 is one of those that you just can't put down. Instead, you agree to complete "just one more stage" numerous times before actually turning the game off. The addictive nature of Fortix 2 cannot be matched. The only glaring drawback here is the amount of content contained in the game, but there is still enough fun to be had in Fortix 2 to make it well worth the download. Don't hesitate to buy Fortix 2 today!
