This isn’t your classic tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Sure the dwarves are present, but let’s just say puberty hit the short men rather hard. Armed with pick axes, shovels, and lots of liqour, these dwarves fight alongside Eric the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to protect fair princess Snow White (Kristen Stewart) in her battle against the evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron).
The movie left me in awe with its gorgeous effects and constant, raw action scenes. I was stunned at the amount of battles this film had! When you think Snow White, what do you think of? The beautiful, fair woman sitting in a meadow surrounded by song birds and fawn? How about a battered and bruised Snow White running for her life while being chased by a rather large and livid bridge troll? ‘Cause that’s what this movie delivers; nonstop action that you couldn’t imagine being relevant to the story of Snow White.
I’ll be honest. When I first heard that Stewart was to play the role of Snow White I was a little skeptical. Little Isabela Swan (Twilight series) as the fair princess Snow White? Ladies and gentleman, I couldn’t have thought of anyone better. Gone was the shy, timid Bela Swan we were all so used to seeing. Enter strong, confident Snow White draped in mail armor and leading an army of soldiers. The sight gave me chills.
Charlize Theron’s performance as the evil queen was simply stunning. She portrayed such anguish, such anger for Snow White it was nearly palpable. But we also get a peek at the softer, “tortured soul” side of the Queen. I loved this added back story as it gave a glimpse into the queen’s past and how she came into her power.
Snow White and the Huntsman had me on the proverbial edge of my seat for the entire 2 hours and 7 minutes. A little lengthy than most movies but totally worth it. I guarantee you won’t even notice the time.
