Best Sequels in Modern Gaming

In today’s gaming industry, video game sequels are becoming more common in place of truly original titles with the few exceptions of highly anticipated titles such as The Last of Us. Some gamers have been outspoken against so many sequels, especially when many series have began shipping out sequels on an annual basis it seems. Sequels don’t have to be a bad thing however, and there are many great titles that have been released in this generation alone that are truly worthy of being mentioned among the best sequels ever, and here are just a few of these excellent titles.

5. God of War 3
With the release of God of War: Ascension right around the corner and the recent release of the God of War Saga Collection, God of War 3 is one of the first games that will come to any PlayStation 3 owner’s mind when talking about the best sequels of this generation. The game helped revolutionize the God of War series moving forward and is one of the best selling PlayStation 3 titles in North America. God of War 3 introduced us to a side of Kratos we had not yet seen in the series and brought back the great gameplay from the series that we’ve come to love over the years. If you own a PlayStation 3, God of War 3 is a must own title.

4. Darksiders II
The original Darksiders was an amazing game that took us through an action packed journey as the Horseman of the Apocalypse War, and as fun as the title was, Darksiders II has come along to show us just what the series can truly be moving forward. The game introduced many new game mechanics such as the all new loot system, refined combat featuring the Harbinger and the Necromancer skill trees, the Crucible arena mode, and of course, the new character Death and his companions for the journey. Darksiders II is easily one of the best games of 2012, and it is also well worth mentioning among the best of this generation.

3. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron picks up shortly after the events of developer High Moon Studio’s Transformers: War for Cybertron. The planet of Cybertron is in terrible shape and on the brink of collapse. The Decpticons have nearly won the war with the Autobots, and the weakened Autobots squad are attempting to leave the planet on a transportation ark that would take them to another planet full of rich natural energy. Of course, the Decepticons are having none of that, as the leader of the group, Megatron, would take the ark and the new planet’s energy for himself in order to restore Cybertron and allow the Decepticons complete rule of the planet. The game features a sprawling single player campaign that will allow you to take control of many different Transformers from both sides of the war, and the game features both great cooperative and competitive modes that make it a worthy successor and one of the best games of 2012 and of this generation.

2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 continued the epic storyline of the Modern Warfare series. The global conflict has now spread around the world after the events of Modern Warfare 2, and the powerful and highly dangerous terrorist Makarov must be stopped at all costs. The game is set in a near future with the world at war in an ongoing conflict where you will take control of many different soldiers in order to prevent further casualties and restore the United States to its former glory. Of course, the game also includes a revamped multiplayer experience including new Special Ops missions, new competitive modes and enhancements and the all new survival mode that pits you and a teammate up against waves of incresingly difficult enemies.

1. Red Dead Redemption
Cult favorite Red Dead Revolver finally received its first sequel in 2010, and the new Rockstar title quickly became one of the most beloved of all time while shattering numerous sales records and receiving the highest marks among critics for its phenomenal open world gameplay set within an Old West setting. Red Dead Redemption is truly unique in its own right, even from its predecessor that was originally picked up and completed by Rockstar in the early 2000s and first introduced the world to great gameplay mechanics such as Dead Eye. The tale of John Marston is one that will live on for as long as there are gamers to tell his story, and the gaming world would be missing a truly great title without its release.

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...
