Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition (Video Game Preview)

Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition will be bringing back classic controls and gameplay and enhancing the game with plenty of new features, game modes, graphical styles and more. Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition will return just in time for Frogger's 30th anniversary, and it is a good reminder of why so many gamers have fell in love with the addictive gameplay of everybody's favorite hopping amphibian.

Frogger is all about hopping your way across a busy highway that's constantly bustling with cars headed in either direction then making your way over a dangerous pond full of deadly crocodiles and the like as you finally make it to the safety of a lily pad. Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition brings back this timeless gameplay in Classic Mode where you can customize matches with a variety of songs, control schemes that either let you continuously jump or go with the classic controls and many styles including classic 8-bit, Next Gen and even classic skins from other Konami titles including Contra and Castlevania complete with their original soundtracks.

Classic Mode is only part of the fun in Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition however. The game contains eight game modes in total that includes single player Challenge Mode, Twin Frogger where you control two frogs at once, Paint where each highlighted block must be traveled over to create a picture and Frogger Freak Out where you receive random challenges from the game's different game modes in succession. Then there are the multiplayer modes Tile Capture where players attempt to control the most painted tiles, Battle Royale where players use powerups to become a giant frog and squish their competition and Lady Frog Rescue where the player that captures the most lady frogs wins. All of these game modes are a ton of fun and offer a variety of game modes to enjoy apart from the classic style of play. It's just too bad the game doesn't feature online multiplayer which has become a staple of modern games.

From a presentation standpoint, Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition is nearly flawless. The game's graphics look great and are very colorful, but occasionally they can be confusing if you're not accustomed to a particular layout. The addition of Contra, Castlevania and even Dance Dance Revolution as playable styles is a really nice bonus. The game's soundtrack contains well over 10 different songs that include classic tunes, dubstep and funky techno remixes and plenty of other songs as well. Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition makes it easy to swap between game modes and various settings before the start of a game, and a colorful HUD makes it easy to keep track of lives, points and on what stage you're currently playing.

Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition is the perfect tribute to one of the most important characters in gaming history. With a variety of options and game modes, anyone is sure to find something to enjoy in the game. Whether it's to experience all of the different styles, play some addictive party modes with friends or against AI, or simply to nab all of the game's achievements and trophies, you'll keep coming back to Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition continuously. Check it out on PlayStation Network today!

Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition will be available on PlayStation Network and can be purchased for $9.99. Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition is rated E by the ESRB for Mild Fantasy Violence. For more information on Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition, check out the official PlayStation website.
