5 Movies to Check Out This Week

It’s a new week and plenty of great television shows and films are releasing on various platforms and media outlets for your viewing pleasure soon. With so much programming to choose from, it can become a bit overwhelming to make the right call–much like the replacement referees in the Monday Football game between the Packers and Seahawks, yikes! Luckily, we’re here with the best recommendations for the week, so you don’t have to spend any time wondering what to spend your time watching this week. We want to point out last week we recommended you check out the brand new Blu-Ray and DVD release of Supernatural Season 7, and with only a week until Season 8 kicks off on the CW, Netflix has added the seventh season to instant view, so make sure to check it out if you haven’t caught up on the newest season yet! As for this week, there is plenty of great content coming out, so let’s get into it now shall we?

5. WWE Programming (Hulu Plus)
We actually think you should watch the weekly lineup of WWE programming each week including RAW, Smackdown and the numerous other shows offered by the biggest wrestling organization in the world, but this week, Hulu Plus has acquired a new partnership with WWE to bring streaming programming to the service. With Hulu Plus, you will now be able to watch all of your favorite WWE shows straight from your PlayStation 3. 4. The Samaritan (Redbox)
The Samaritan is new this week at Redbox, and the film stars Samuel L. Jackson as Foley–an ex-con who has just served a 20 year prison term and is looking to turn his life around and possibly begin a new life with a mysterious woman whom he just met. However, his past quickly catches up with him, and Foley finds himself reluctantly working with his former partner’s son. Did we mention Foley killed his former partner, and his son is looking for revenge on Foley and to land a huge payday with a hit on a corporate big shot? Needless to say, things go from bad to worse for Foley, as he’s blackmailed into a job he wants no part of and he soon finds himself fighting for his life. With a strong performance from a supporting cast and an always great showing from Samuel L. Jackson, The Samaritan is an action packed film most gamers will want to see this week.

3. Looper (Theaters)
This year’s Inception hits theater’s this weekend with Director Rian Johnson’s Looper. The action packed film takes equal parts supernatural and science fiction to create a unique narrative where a time traveling hitman must travel back and come face to face with himself. Starring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Looper is a futuristic tale that leaves no stone unturned and features a riveting narrative that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. You’ve probably already seen the trailer for the film by now, and you shouldn’t need to be told the film is well worth checking out and one of the best films you will have a chance to see in 2012. 2. Marvel’s The Avengers (Blu-Ray & DVD)
The most talked about release of this week is sure to Marvel’s The Avengers. The film released this summer and is most people’s favorite film of the year so far. After racking up some record breaking figures in the box office, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Nick Fury and crew are ready for their Blu-Ray and DVD release. Watch as this dream team of Marvel heroes unite to save the world from a great evil that threatens to take over the planet. The only reason the film doesn’t land higher on the list is because most anyone who wanted to see the film already has, and number one is a particularly special treat for gamers this week.

1. Resident Evil: Damnation (Redbox)
Finally, Resident Evil: Damnation releases this week exclusively to Redbox. Acting as a sequel to the hit animated film Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation brings back hero Leon S. Kennedy from the video game series and previous film to introduce to an all new narrative featuring plenty of deadly B.O.W.s, new characters and even some familiar faces such as the mysterious Ada Wong. Leon sneaks into a European battleground after hearing rumors of B.O.W.s being used to fight wars in the country, and he soon begins to unravel a dangerous plan that threatens to destroy more than just the war torn country, and he’s the only one who can stop it. Gamers will clearly have to see this film, and luckily, it releases one week before Resident Evil 6 as the perfect way to get you geared up for the biggest video game release of 2012!
