5 Movies You Must Check Out This Week

It’s a new week for PlayStation gamers, and even in a week full of big releases like Borderlands 2, Jet Set Radio, Zuma’s Revenge and more, you’re going to want to make a little time for the best television and movies coming out this week. After a week that gave us a brand new sequel for the Resident Evil franchise, we’ve got some more great flicks for you to watch across a variety of platforms. We were able to personally check out Resident Evil: Retribution last week, and it’s the perfect film for gamers, so make sure to check it out if you haven’t already. These new releases are the best of the best for the new week and will give gamers something to talk about besides that bad ass new gun you looted in Pandora. So, sit back and enjoy the 5 Movies Gamers Must Check Out This Week!

5. End of Watch (Theaters)
End of Watch stars Academy Award winner Jake Gyllenhaal, who you may remember from the Prince of Persia video game adaptation, and Michael Peña as two young police officers who become the most wanted by a deadly cartel group after stumbling upon a cache of drug money and firearms during a routine arrest. The partners will have to fight for their lives with danger lurking around every corner as police officers marked for death. This exciting title comes from the writer of Training Day and will deliver exhilarating action that gamers are sure to enjoy mixed with a sense what it truly means to call someone family. Check out this new film in theaters nationwide this weekend.

4. The Cabin in the Woods (Redbox)
This week, Redbox receives the biggest horror film of 2012 available for the first time ever. The Cabin in the Woods is about a group of annoying teenagers who head to a remote cabin on the outskirts of modern civilization for a weekend of fun, drinking and sex. Soon after arrival, all hell begins to break loose as the group is attacked by all sorts of supernatural beings that begin picking off the group one at a time. The typical plot is turned on its head when it is revealed a larger presence is behind the attacks that is actually scripting how the weekend will turn out for the film’s protagonists. The Cabin in the Woods is well worth the watch and a great film for a few scares, a few laughs and a nice distraction away from shooting and looting on Pandora.

3. Supernatural Season 7 (DVD & Blu-Ray)
Supernatural Season 7 saw the return of Sam and Dean Winchester and rest of the group we’ve come to love over the years. With Castiel seemingly all powerful and not acting like his normal self, all seems lost until an even greater evil shows up with the plans of devouring the human race, literally. The Leviathan isn’t just a wonderful Mass Effect 3 add-on, but an ancient creature in the Supernatural mythology that are seemingly indestructible, immortal and eat humans for sustenance. It will be up to Sam, Dean and Bobby to thwart the Leviathans’ plans of world domination headed by their leader Dick Roman. Check out this amazing new season on DVD and Blu-Ray today and use it as the perfect means to gear up for the beginning of Supernatural Season 8 on CW beginning October 3, 2012.

2. The Grey (Netflix)
Netflix has just added the new film The Grey to Instant View. The hit film stars everybody’s favorite, god/jedi/kickass former agent as Ottway–a man who becomes a hero in the face of ultimate danger while fighting for survival in the most extreme of conditions. After their plane crashes in the Alaskan wilderness, Ottway will lead a group of injured and desperate oil drillers back to civilization while fighting through ice, snow, deathly cold temperatures and a pack of bloodthirsty wolves. Liam is at his best in the film, as he fights to protect those around him and to see his wife one last time. The Grey will have you hooked from start to finish and produces an ending that will have you talking about it long after the credits have rolled. With the release of Taken 2 coming up soon and plenty of survival elements like you’d find in a number of recent video games for PlayStation 3, The Grey is one movie all gamers need to experience for themselves.

1. Dredd 3D (Theater)
Judge Dredd returns to play Judge, Jury and Executioner in this 2012 remake based on a best-selling comic book series. Dredd 3D stars actor Karl Urban, who you may know from such films as Lord of the Rings, Star Trek and the film adaptation of Doom, as Judge Dredd–an urban cop that keeps order in a post apocalyptic wasteland known as Mega City One. Dredd 3D is an action packed ride from beginning to end as Dredd faces off with a dangerous clan in their 200 story headquarters. Dredd won’t be on the job alone with rookie cop Cassandra Anderson along for the ride as they take down this heinous drug gang to help make the streets a little bit safer one dead scumbag at a time. If you’ve seen the trailer for this film, you’ll easily understand why Dredd 3D is the must see film for gamers this week. So check it out and come back next week for even more great releases!
