The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (Video Game Review)

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is the newest in a long line of Sherlock Holmes video games released this time from developer Frogwares and publisher Focus Home Interactive. The newest tale provides many vast improvements and introduces you to many new game mechanics never before seen in the series while presenting you with one of the darker storylines produced from the world of the detective in recent years; no cheesy Robert Downey Jr. jokes are to be found in The Testament of Sherlock Holmes! The game provides a fine look at Holmes' world and stays true to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic character while providing excellent gameplay and plenty of fun interactive puzzles to solve that will make you feel like a real private eye!

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes allows you to play as the World's Greatest Detective after he has fallen on some rough times. After brilliantly solving yet another difficult case, Holmes finds himself framed for a crime he didn't commit. A returned necklace is proven to be a phony, and the sleuth, for all of his intelligence, attention to detail and confident demeanor can't prove his own innocence. With all of London questioning his motives, Holmes must find a way to solve his most difficult case yet with his trusty sidekick Watson along for the ride. The game provides a fantastic storyline that will keep you guessing until the very end and provides all the intrigue you would find in one of the many great Sherlock Holmes novels on which the game is based.

While storyline is a key component of The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, gameplay is possibly even more important, and you'll have to keep a keen eye to gather all of the clues scattered around crime scenes in the game. Finding clues can be made easier thanks to the great use of highlighted items, and you will need to use your found clues to solve crimes and progress through the game. In addition, you'll have to interrogate many suspects to gather even more useful information. Find enough evidence, and you'll be able to put reasoning to the game's hints to finally close the book on one grisly case after another. Murder scenes are by far the most interesting, and the nasty kills can come as a quite a shock to some and look great thanks to some really impressive graphical quality. A great soundtrack complements the Holmes' story to produce a fully immersive experience that will bring out your best inspector qualities.

If you enjoy murder mysteries and solving complex crimes, you'll love The Testament of Sherlock Holmes. With well over 60 short stories and novels based on the mysterious world of Sherlock Holmes, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes manages to produce one of the best storylines of all and will keep you intrigued from start to finish. Exploring crime scenes and interrogating suspects for vital clues is a blast, and casual and hardcore gamers can both find something to enjoy with the game. With a dark storyline, plenty of fantastic puzzles and vast improvements over its predecessors, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes manages to produce the best video game adaptation of the great gumshoe ever.
