Top 5 Animated Films of 2012

We’re all gamers here, but that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy a few great flicks from time to time. Numerous video game movies have been adapted as full length feature films, and it seems that more have been popping up in recent years than ever before. With the release of Wreck-It-Ralph coming up in November, it seems even animated films are trying to draw in gamers as well, and some cartoons are just so great, you need to see them whether they’re about video games or not. If you’re a gamer, you’ll likely enjoy your cartoons more than the next guy anyhow, as video games are animated in nature to begin with. So to ensure you don’t miss the best that this year’s lineup has to offer, here are the Top 5 Animated Films of 2012.

5. Monsters, Inc. 3D (December 19, 2012)
Monsters, Inc. is truly one of the most underrated animated films of all-time, but Disney is on a tear with their re-releases of films in 3D theaters around the country, so there is no better time to check this one out. Monsters, Inc. stars John Goodman and Billy Crystal as Sulley and Mike Wazowski–two monsters that scare children for a living and find it to be a rewarding job until they make friends with a young child that crosses over to their world they affectionately nickname Boo. The film manages to be both a touching flick and offer up plenty of funny moments, and you can be sure we’ll be first in line to check this one out when it opens up in 3D a week before Christmas!

4. Rise of the Guardians (November 21, 2012)
Rise of the Guardians is an upcoming DreamWorks picture that stars Jude Law, Chris Pine, Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin and Isla Fisher as the Boogeyman, Jack Frost, The Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and The Tooth Fairy respectively. The film is all about the childhood legends coming together to fight off an evil that is threatening the world, and to save the children, these legends will need to combine their forces not completely unlike Marvel’s Avengers. This kid friendly film looks to be packed full of great action, and who can honestly say they don’t want to see how Hugh Jackman does at playing the Easter Bunny?

3. Ice Age: Continental Drift (July 13, 2012)
You would think the story of Manny, Diego and Sid–voiced by Ray Romano, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo respectively–would be getting old by now, but this Blue Sky Studios series just keeps on amusing the masses, and we’re definitely big fans of the series. With the newest iteration, the group meet plenty of new friends and face new threats as their continent begins shifting and moving across the ocean forcing the group to explore this new world. This one may not be exactly action packed, but it’s a very good watch that anyone could enjoy, and we’re definitely not tired of watching that crazy squirrel chase after his lone acorn that always manages to be just out of his reach!

2. ParaNorman (August 17, 2012)
ParaNorman is the most kid-friendly zombie film to come around in the history of cinema. When a small town becomes the next target for a zombie invasion, local kid Norman–voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee–must step up and stop the supernatural invasion. The kid actually has a gift that allows him to communicate with the undead and strange monsters of the world. He soon learns the town’s darkest secrets and sets off on an adventure to save it from a centuries old curse before it’s too late. The film is a great one and one that horror movie fans can easily watch with their kids and easily enjoy the experience as much as the younger generation.

1. Wreck-It-Ralph (November 2, 2012)
Who else could the number one spot belong to but Wreck-It-Ralph? With numerous video game cameos, Disney backing the film with plenty of support and advertising dollars and an all-star cast that includes John C. Reilly as Ralph, Sarah Silverman as Vanellope von Schweetz and Jane Lynch as Sergeant Calhoun, the film has all of the tools needed to succeed, and the trailers released so far have done nothing but further strengthened this assumption. Wreck-It-Ralph is about a video game villain gone good. Tired of being hated and ridiculed just for doing his job, the film’s title character runs away from his video game to make a name for himself elsewhere, and he soon finds some new friends and a dangerous threat that is a danger to shutting down the whole arcade, and Ralph will have to be the one to stop it. Make sure to check out this film when it releases in November!
