Age of Adventure: Playing the Hero (Video Game Review)

Age of Adventure: Playing the Hero is a new time management game from game developer In Images and publisher Alawar Entertainment. The new game takes you to a fantasy world where you must carefully manage resources and your workers in order to build certain structures, fight off dangerous monsters and complete other imperative tasks. The strategic elements of the game will have you addicted soon after starting up the game, while the intuitive play as you learn tutorial will quickly train you in the mechanics of the game, and you'll find yourself replaying the game's 45 challenging levels to earn the best trophies in the game and unlock the game's impressive list of achievements.

The story of Age of Adventure: Playing the Hero is a light-hearted tale about an actor who is transported back in time after being mistaken for the world's greatest assassin. The man soon falls in line with the ruler of the kingdom, and instead of assassinating the king, the actor teams with him and his subjects on a journey to find and recover the Crystals of Time to save the kingdom and return to his own time. You'll have many of the king's loyal subjects at your disposal in the game in order to safely journey across the land and safely recover the Crystals of Time. The fun tale is littered with humor and rewards you with a grand ending upon the game's completion.

Time management is the key to winning in Age of Adventure: Playing the Hero. Strategic use of your resources and workers are vital, and as you build additional structures and level up your new buildings, you will unlock more workers and bonus abilities and items. You need to stay on your toes however; many times throughout the game, you'll be attacked by dangerous monsters who need to be taken out immediately to prevent your small outpost from being destroyed. To speed up building and scavenging of supplies, you can rapidly click on any job being currently performed, but while this makes completing missions easier achieved, it also tires out your finger and your mouse after a while. The game does feature nice graphics and a charming soundtrack to round out an overall strong presentation however.

If you enjoy games that ask you to carefully manage supplies and your short supply of human resources, you'll absolutely love Age of Adventure: Playing the Hero. The game is great fun for experienced players and newbies alike. There is plenty of content crammed into the game, and the relatively long campaign receives even more replay value thanks to plenty of unlockable trophies and achievements that will have you shooting for the fastest times possible. Fully exploring each of the game's locations is exciting, and you'll find it hard to put down this addictive title once you've started playing.
