If the Vita is to succeed, Sony has to stop allowing third-parties to divide the handheld gaming audience. Corpse Party, a Japanese horror PSP game, entered the market last last year and captured PSP gamers with its gore, eerie music, and frankly anime tendency for the absurdly over-the-top plot. Still, at its core, it never failed to be entertaining, so it is not a surprise that a sequel would be in the works.
That the sequel is geared for the PSP and not the Vita, however, is a surprise. Especially considering the Vita cannot play PSP games in its traditional UMD form, this does nothing to encourage gamers to upgrade from the PSP to the Playstation Vita. The gyroscope, rear touch pad, and dual analog sticks are features of the Vita that could really enable a more immersive and enjoyable gaming experience – a crucial element in the survival-horror adventure genre.
Does this mean Sony has all but given up hope on the Playstation Vita? Do you think games should still be developed for the PSP?
