Silent Hill: Book of Memories (Video Game Preview)

Silent Hill: Book of Memories is the latest title from Konami for the PlayStation Vita. The horror just isn’t there when playing on your handheld system while you wait for your doctor’s appointment or play on your break at work. Silent Hill on your handheld device just doesn’t deliver the same chills as playing it in a dark room on your console. We usually purchase handheld game systems to have something to pass the time when on the go–so it is very unlikely to ever experience a horror title to its fullest potential on one.

Silent Hill: Books of Memories doesn’t head straight into the psychological terror like most of the games in the series and has a lighter tone than past titles. Players will jump into pure action with up to four other players and battle through the torturous hell around them. Fans of the series may notice that the title plays much like that of Diablo as they gather treasure and fight off waves of enemies. The multiplayer feature is probably the best part of the game. Finally being able to play Silent Hill with a group of friends really takes the game to the next level!

Once you enter the game you receive a book that has all your memories contained within its pages. The scary diary is a record of everything that has ever happened to you. The best part of Silent Hill: Book of Memories is the return of monsters that you have become accustomed to in the series. Gamers will customize one of four playable characters with each one of them representing a high-school stereotype right out of your worst nightmares. After you have fully customized your character then you will then travel into the doom ahead with either a friend or alone. You will be randomly sent to rooms where you must avoid hazards, battle enemies and best of all–find loot!

Silent Hill: Book of Memories was built from the ground up to work beautifully on the PlayStation Vita. Book of Memories has intense graphics, an immersive storyline and a spooktacular soundtrack. The title may seem a little cartoony when compared to other games in the series, but it works perfectly for the handheld. Most importantly, the game plays well, and has responsive controls. The combat provides enough variety with the well designed weapons and character skills to keep you playing for hours. The game also takes advantage of the Vita’s touch screen for those dull tasks like inventory management. This gives the player full use of the control pads and buttons for taking down horrifying creatures– which you will be doing a lot of in Book of Memories. Silent Hill: Book of Memories is a must-have for any horror fan’s collection, and definitely was worth the wait!

Silent Hill: Book of Memories will soon be available from all major retailers and can be purchased exclusively for the PlayStation Vita. Silent Hill: Book of Memories is rated M by the ESRB for Blood and Gore, Language, Suggestive Themes & Violence.
