Zombie Driver HD (Video Game Review)

Zombie Driver was originally released for PC via Steam in December 2009, but developer Exor Studios has brought the game back in the enhanced Zombie Driver HD for PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, PC and Android. The new release features crisp high definition graphics and new game modes for even more carnage than the original title. Zombie Driver HD is all about driving through zombie infested streets and blasting your way through even the toughest undead with a variety of firearms equipped to your vehicle. The game contains plenty of weapons, unlockable vehicles and fun missions that will have you coming back for more, and a huge open world is ready to be explored in order to find all the secrets the game holds.

The storyline of Zombie Driver HD is pretty straightforward. You're a taxi driver who has managed to survive a large-scale, chemical outbreak caused by the government that has triggered the start of the zombie apocalypse, and you've gained a new job from the mayor to work together with the military to wipe out the infected and retrieve the means to stop the outbreak once and for all. You'll find plenty of fun missions throughout the game's story mode that will task you with primary objectives such as protecting others as they escape, taking down giant zombie bosses, rescuing survivors or retrieving special items. You'll unlock items, upgrades and money when you complete a mission, and each mission will have an even more difficult secondary objective that will grant more substantial rewards when completed. While the missions in the game can be a bit uninspired, the zombie killing action is incredibly exciting and unrelenting throughout the course of the game.

Zombie Driver HD plays from a top down view with a camera that does a good job of sticking with the action even at the highest speeds. You'll want to race around killing zombies, but you'll also want to ensure you're grabbing an adequate amount of upgrades, health and other item drops as well. The game looks great with plenty of blood and gore splattering about when you turbo slide into a horde of overmatched zombies, and the controls are tight and responsive for outmaneuvering the game's toughest opponents. Zombie Driver HD packs two additional game modes: Blood Race with classic races, eliminator races and endurance arcade racing action and Slaughter Mode, which is your typical mode where you survive waves of increasingly difficult enemies all while grabbing plenty of upgrades yourself. Each mode packs a different punch, and the only real complaint with the replay value of the game is a lack of any true multiplayer modes.

Chain guns, flamethrowers and rocket launchers are just some of the many weapons you'll find in Zombie Driver HD, and if blasting away massive, Godzilla-like, undead abominations doesn't sound fun enough, you'll find plenty of unlockable vehicles including fire trucks, sports cars and limos, additional paint jobs for your vehicles and fun game modes each with their own challenges. The only real knock against Zombie Driver HD is the lack of multiplayer modes, but that's only a minor gripe since the game is so fun to play alone or against AI if you so choose. Zombie Driver HD is an exciting title that creates a unique game experience that can only be described as Twisted Metal meets Left 4 Dead, and it is a game this manages to be better than the sum of its parts. Pick up your copy of Zombie Driver HD and get ready to kick some zombie butt!

Zombie Driver HD is now available for PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, PC via Steam and Android and can be purchased for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points. Zombie Driver HD is rated M by the ESRB for Blood and Gore, Language & Violence. For more information on the game, check out the official Zombie Driver HD website.

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...

Even if you’re new in town, you’ll feel like family after your first cup of coffee. The menu is straight out of a Southern comfort cookbook.
