Halo 4 Makes $220 Million on Day 1, Set to Make $300 Million in First Week

If you tally up the worldwide sales of Halo 4 on the first day of availability it made a staggering $220 million making it easily the biggest Halo launch in history. Microsoft isn't revealing how many copies of the game were actually sold in the day however, Microsoft Studios VP Phil Spencer said, "We're thrilled that  Halo 4  has emerged as the biggest U.S. entertainment launch of the year."

Takes this with a grain salt considering that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 launches today. On a conference call today Activision stated that they expect it to out sell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. For a bit of perspective, Modern Warfare brought in around $775 million in a single week. That's a milestone not only for gaming but entertainment as a whole. Will Black Ops 2 break the elusive $1 billion opening weekend in the entertainment industry? It's an area few have dared to tread before, we'll know this time next week if we have a new member to that club.
